DEF LEPPARD Perform ANIMAL On Dutch TV Show Countdown (1987 Video)
Def Leppard performed on the popular Dutch TV show Countdown in August 1987 with official video now available.
Official video now available of the first appearance on 'Countdown'.
1987 Animal Performance
The band had followed up the first 'Hysteria' album-era TV appearances in the UK with a quick return to the Netherlands.
Both 'Animal' and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' were performed on 'Countdown'.
Joe and Rick were also interviewed between songs by then host Adam Curry who famously went on to join MTV USA a few months later.
He would interview the band many times including for the October 1988 'MTV Rockumentary' in Atlanta, GA as the band were about to finish the 'Hysteria' world tour.
The official YouTube channel for the show has now uploaded 'Animal' from ths appearance.
The posting coincides with the 39th anniversary of the songs first release in the UK.
They already added 'Love Bites' from December 1988 to their channel in March 2025 and, like that video, this features the full song.
Joe and Phil are both wearing similar outfits to the appearance for 'Animal' on Top Of The Pops with Joe in one of his Z-Rock T-Shirts (which came from a Dallas rock radio station).
'Countdown' was broadcast on Veronica TV in the Netherlands and also shown in the UK on either Super Channel or SKY TV.

Countdown
'Countdown' ran from 1978 to 1994 ans was billed as 'Europe's Number One Rock Show'.
Joe was also interviewed at least two times on the show with clips from both featured on 'Video Archive'.
The show's official YouTube channel has spent the last few years uploading hundreds of old performances and now has two of the three by Def Leppard.
