The Rolling Stones

I have to say, I'm absolutely loving this new Stones record. I've played it to death for the last seven days, and it just gets better and better the more you play it. Absolutely wonderful.

Andrew Watt has brought something out of them that's not been around for decades. But for the last two albums, you have to include Hackney Diamonds as well, as a great records, but this is just brilliant.

I thought, "You know, I'm going to go with a fast, stonking one to open the show with," and this is the one it is.

And I thought I'm gonna go with a fast song to open the show with and this is the one. it is Foreign Tongues is the album, the song that we heard. "Hit Me In The Head".

Paul McCartney

Talking of artists that have been around for a long time with new music out, check this out. This is Paul McCartney.

And before that, we heard brand new Paul McCartney, also produced, like the opening track of the show tonight, by Andrew Watt. The album is The Boys from Dungeon Lane, and the song we heard was "Mountain Top".

The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver

Now, that is far from new. In fact, it's from 1972, I believe, so that would make it about 54 years old.

It is the Sutherland Brothers & Quiver, taken from their Very Best Of collection, with "Dream Kid".

Rush

Now, they had to cancel a few gigs because Geddy Lee's voice crapped out for a little while, but I do believe he's back, and I think all is well.

There's still a great buzz about the fact that these guys are touring again with an amazing drummer called Anika Nilles.

So let's hear Rush from what you might call the beginning of their break into superstardom. From the album A Farewell to Kings, this is Rush.

And before that, Rush, from the album A Farewell to Kings, the 40th Anniversary release of said album. We heard "Cinderella Man".

Supertramp

It's a real shame that the classic line-up of that band never got the chance to reform and go out and show the world how great they were.

Sad but true.

It is Supertramp. The album is Crime of the Century, the song we heard, the opening track, "School".

And before that, we heard the wonderful Alice Cooper from that magnificent album Killer, which was released in 1972. We heard all eight minutes and twenty-five seconds of "Halo of Flies".

Earl Slick

That, of course, is David Bowie. Although, in actual fact, it's not. It's actually Earl Slick, but it is, of course, David Bowie singing. Let me explain.

In 2003, Earl Slick, David Bowie's guitar player, did a solo album called Zig Zag, which featured many different singers, including yours truly. Robert Smith from The Cure features on the album, and also, of course, his boss, David Bowie.

The song is "Isn't It Evening?"

"Curse you, Slash!" I exclaimed when I first heard this next song, for I thought, like "Personal Jesus", this is the kind of tune that Def Leppard could absolutely kill.

But, unfortunately, it was not to be. He's beaten us to it. Oh well.

And before that, we heard the wonderful Slash from his solo album Orgy of the Damned, with his great version, which features Chris Stapleton on lead vocals, of the old Fleetwood Mac classic that Def Leppard will probably now never cover.

Oh well.

Steely Dan

Wonderful stuff there from Steely Dan. The album is the Showbiz Kids, the song we heard was "Haitian Divorce".
