Def Leppard have announced an authorised documentary film for 2027 titled Long Live Def Leppard.

The film is due in cinemas in early 2027.

The 'Long Live Def Leppard' documentary film has been announced today by Variety and is being made by filmmaker Jeff Feuerzeig.

Announced for "an early 2027 theatrical release".

And quoted as their "first authorized feature-length documentary".

The film is said to have been made in "close collaboration with the band".

And contain "never-before-seen footage and unparalleled access".

Previous Documentaries

At one hour it might not be considered 'feature length' but there was an authorised documentary on the band in 1989 called 'Rock Of Ages The Def Leppard Story' (see YouTube).

Broadcast on BBC Two in August 1989 that the band were fully involved in and the topics covered in that will probably make up at least half of this one.

Not to mention various full length documentary style shows on MTV (two Rockumentaries) and the VH1 'Behind The Music' in 1998.

There was also a TV docu-series made by the band in 2013 titled "Living With Def Leppard" that was announced in July 2013 with a preview video released in October of the same year.

The pilot episode (made by Bunim/Murray Productions) was said to document the band's 2013 VIVA! Hysteria residency and hopefully go on to be a full length series.

Joe later said TV companies rejected it because there was not enough conflict between the band members and/or internal drama.

2027 Releases

The cinema release mentioned for early 2027 ties in with the new album release time frame.

It also further suggests a 2018 style big announcement of a tour, album and the documentary at the same time.

A probable 40th anniversary release for 'Hysteria' is also due in 2027 (unless plans for that have changed).

50th Anniversary(?)

Although not mentioned in the press release, next year will be the 50th anniversary of the band's formation.

Like Iron Maiden's recent 50th anniversary year, including their own documentary film 'Burning Ambition', this film will probably be a part of wider celebrations.

The film might have been chosen over the current trend of biopics, which for anyone who saw the VH1 'Hysteria' biopic in 2001, is probably a good thing!.
