Show Intro
Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Once again this week, coming to you all the way from—no, wait a minute. It's not Las Vegas. It's done and dusted. We are finished.
February was a fantastic time, but now it's a whole new month and we move on.
We're all—you and I—on the same time zone once again. It is great to be home for at least three weeks before we head off to India, and then the small matter of the UK and European tour starting in June. But that's way off.
Whereas the show is right now.
So we haven't exactly abandoned ship, but it is Women and Children First. This is Van Halen.
Van Halen
What a cracking way to start the show.
That is Van Halen from 1980, their third album Women and Children First. The opening track, of course: “And the Cradle Will Rock…”
Ricky Warwick
Okay, from Women and Children First to Tattoos & Alibis. This is Ricky Warwick.
And before that, we heard Ricky Warwick from his debut solo album, which was co-produced by yours truly and Ronan McHugh back in 2001, I think it was, when we recorded that album.
The album is Tattoos & Alibis. The song that we heard: “Mysterioso.”
Ian Hunter
I saw the tour in 1977 at the Doncaster Gaumont. It's credited as a band, but we all know it was indeed the great man's third solo album really—the great man being Ian Hunter.
We just heard the title track of the album Overnight Angels.
The Who
Right. Well, if my calculations are even relatively close, and you're listening to this live on Saturday, it's around 5:15 right now.
And before that we heard the mighty The Who from 1973. The album is Quadrophenia. The song: “5:15.”
Rod Stewart
Wonderful stuff there from Sir Rod Stewart, as he is known these days, from the Rod Stewart album—also known as An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down. A song once covered by Stereophonics.
It is “Handbags and Gladrags.”
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Coming up, one of the highlights of the only show I saw in Las Vegas.
Joe Walsh
And before that, Joe Walsh.
The only show I got to see when we were in Vegas was the night before our last show, which was a Friday—we had it off. I went to see Eagles at the Sphere, and it was a sight to behold.
The inside of that place is crazy.
I saw videos of the U2 residency, but nothing matches actually being in the building. I saw The Wizard of Oz there in October, but to see a band there—they're so small, but the graphics on the inside of this big huge ball that you're inside of actually just… it has to be seen to be believed. It really is superb.
And one of the greatest things was that they do solo stuff, like Don Henley does “The Boys of Summer” and things like that, and Joe Walsh does “Rocky Mountain Way” and a few others.
And of course, the one that we just heard, which was a huge hit for him all over the world—specifically in the UK back in 1978.
It is from an album called Look What I Did! The Joe Walsh Anthology. The song we heard: “Life's Been Good.”
UFO
Featuring some extremely wonderful guitar work by Michael Schenker. They're actually stealing the melody from the song “I (Who Have Nothing)” for the solo—and doesn't he make it work?
Well, that is UFO from their 1977 breakthrough album Lights Out with “Try Me.”
The Clash
Right then time to get your fighting boots on. This is The Clash from their third album, released back in 1979.
And before that we heard The Clash from their eponymously titled debut album back in 1977, with their version of the Bobby Fuller Four song “I Fought the Law.”
Aerosmith
That is Aerosmith with the title track of the album Toys in the Attic.
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, that is about it for this particular show.
It's been a real pleasure, as always. Las Vegas was an absolute trip, but it is good to be home.
I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don't go anywhere. And until then, I shall leave you with this.
Having just invited you all to put on your fighting boots a few minutes ago for The Clash, let's leave them on for this last number.
And please don't take it too literally—it's just a song from 1973's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
This is Elton John and “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.”
Until next week—see ya.
