The Joe Elliott Show - 28th February 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show.

Right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, coming to you for the final time from Las Vegas, where Def Leppard have been in residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for the whole month of February.

Twelve fantastic shows. It’s been an absolute blast. And we are bringing this show to the UK in June and July.

Really looking forward to that. Also very much looking forward to the next 60 minutes.

Let’s get started, shall we?

This is Ghost.

Ghost

I received a message from Tobias just a couple of days ago. He invited me to come see him and his rocking ghouls play live. But sadly, he was at the LA Forum and I’m in Vegas, so no can do.

But what a lovely guy, and what a great band. And what an honour it was for me to do the song “Spillways” with him just a few years ago.

So I thought I’d play something else from the same album.

The album is Impera, which came out in 2022. The song that we just heard — a wonderful bit of work — is called “Imperium”.

Fleetwood Mac

Now, when I first heard this next song, I remember thinking, “Hang on a minute. This sounds really familiar.”

It sounds like something that I grew up with. And I don’t think it’s a rip-off — I think it’s a complete accident — because I do not believe that the makers of the song you’re about to hear knew anything about the song that will follow it.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. You tell me.

This is Fleetwood Mac.

And before that, from the very difficult-to-make album — because it was the follow-up to Rumours — we heard Fleetwood Mac with the title track “Tusk”.

Mick Ronson

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. But to my ears, those two songs are hauntingly familiar.

That is Mick Ronson from his debut album in 1974. The album is Slaughter on 10th Avenue. The song, co-written with David Bowie, is “Hey Ma Get Papa”.

Cockney Rebel

Well, seeing as we’re kind of trending art rock right now, let’s stay in that vein, shall we?

This is Cockney Rebel.

And before that, we heard Cockney Rebel featuring the wonderful — and sadly late, great — Steve Harley with the title track from the album The Psychomodo.

Doctors Of Madness

They were pretty much spat out by punk, which is a real shame, because they were kind of the bridge between said movement and the glam scene.

I think maybe they were just a little too artsy for the rawness of punk.

But my goodness, did they make an impression on a few of us up in Sheffield in 1976 when we saw them open for Be-Bop Deluxe.

Wonderful band.

It’s The Doctors of Madness from their debut album Late Night Movies, All Night Brainstorms. The song is “Billy Watch Out”.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, coming to you for the final time from Las Vegas — Caesars Palace, to be precise.

Coming up, we’re going to get extremely Extreme.

Extreme

And before that, we heard the wonderful Extreme, who will be on tour with Def Leppard throughout the UK and Europe this summer. From their 1992 album III Sides to Every Story, we heard “Everything Under the Sun (Part 3) – Who Cares?”.

We do.

And if you get that subtle reference, you’ve just won yourself a coconut.

Utopia

A brilliant mash-up there of classic prog chords and some wonderful three-part harmonies. It is Utopia from the album Ra, which was released in 1977. The song is “Magic Dragon Theatre”.

Lenny Kravitz

Here’s Lenny Kravitz.

And before that, back three years — can’t believe it’s 1989 since this album came out — it is Lenny Kravitz with the title track of the album Let Love Rule.

Little Angels

1992 is the year the band Little Angels… and in the year 2026 they are reforming their original line-up for a November tour of Britain and Ireland. And I’m really hoping to catch one of those shows, because I’m a big fan of Toby’s writing. He is such a good songwriter.

The song that we just heard there is a great example — “Woman Kind”.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, all the way from my hotel room at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the final time, is about it for this week.

It’s been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time from some unknown location — probably lying on a sunbed having a Tequila Sunrise, as you do.

So until then, I shall leave you with this from 1977.

This is The Stranglers and the title track from their second album, No More Heroes.

Until next week — see ya.
