Show Intro
Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
How are you?
Great to be with you once again this week.
The show is coming to you from my hotel room in Cartagena, in Colombia, where Def Leppard are enjoying a little mini-break in the middle of our South American run.
Big gig in Bogotá on Monday, but until then, what have we got tonight?
Sixty minutes of, in my humble opinion, some marvellous music.
Starting off with Aerosmith.
Aerosmith/Yungblud
Well, I did introduce it as Aerosmith, but technically it's actually Aerosmith and Yungblud.
So it's Aerosmith and guests, and I specifically played that because this weekend at the Hollywood Bowl in California, Aerosmith actually [play] Thursday and Sunday.
But they are playing, supposedly, their last two-ever concerts, and it's billed as Aerosmith and guests.
So I'm playing that in honour of the fact that, if this is the end of the road for Aerosmith, which, in fairness, we all thought was in 2023, but I guess you just can't keep them away, I just thought I would open the show with one of the greatest things that they ever did.
But this is the re-recording from 2025, from an EP called One More Time.
It is, of course, Back in the Saddle.
New York Dolls
Now, many, many years ago, like 1980, Def Leppard were actually managed by the same people that looked after Aerosmith.
They also managed this crowd.
This is the New York Dolls.
And before that, the New York Dolls from their second album back in 1974.
The album is Too Much Too Soon.
The song that we heard: Who Are the Mystery Girls?
T. Rex
Originally one of two tracks on the B-side of Children of the Revolution, these days you can find it as a bonus track on the 1972 album Tanx.
That is T. Rex with Sunken Rags.
Mink DeVille
Well, staying with the theme of New York, this is Mink DeVille, who released a single just a couple of months before their debut album way back in 1977.
And before that, we heard Mink DeVille.
Brilliant stuff from 1977, I believe it was.
The album is Cabretta.
The song we heard: Spanish Stroll.
Hawkwind
That is Hawkwind, a wonderful bit of work called Hurry on Sundown.
You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, all the way this week from Cartagena in Colombia.
Coming up, we're going stargazing with Rainbow.
Rainbow
And before that, well, it's just purely undeniable stuff, isn't it, from the year before, 1976.
The album is Rising.
The band, of course, Rainbow.
The song: the unbelievably brilliant Stargazer.
Lone Star
Featuring on lead vocals, and to this day still one of my favourite rock singers of all time, Mr John Sloman.
That is Lone Star from their second album back in 1977.
The album is Firing on All Six.
The song we heard: Time Lays Down.
Be Bop Deluxe
Right then, now it is time for some modern music with Be-Bop Deluxe.
And before that, we heard Be-Bop Deluxe from 1976, I believe it was, their second album that year, following up on the wonderful Sunburst Finish.
It is Modern Music.
The song that we heard: Down on Terminal Street.
Mott the Hoople
Boy, could that man write a song!
That man is Ian Hunter.
The band, Mott the Hoople, from 1974.
The album is simply called The Hoople.
The song we heard: Pearl 'n' Roy (England).
Show Outro
And that, my dear friends, all the way from Cartagena in Colombia, that's about it for this particular show.
It's been a real pleasure, as always.
I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, all the way from Santiago in Chile.
So please don't go anywhere.
So until then, I shall leave you with this.
Normally, as you know, I like to go out on a bit of a stonker, but today I feel a little bit more laid-back and epic.
So we're going to go back to 1974, to the album The Psychomodo.
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel with the wonderful Tumbling Down.
Until next week.
See ya!
