The venue is located in the docklands arena of the city centre and next to the River Mersey and joined to the ACC Convention Center.
It was opened in January 2008 as Echo Arena.
Since November 2018 it has been called M&S Bank Arena.
The arena was expanded in 2012 and 2017.
