The second 7" single by Def Leppard was released in November 1979.
'Wasted' was the first seven inch single to feature a picture cover and artwork.
Also sometimes considered to be their first single as it was the first single released after 'The Def Leppard E.P.' with a lead song and one B-Side.
The front cover had live shots by a young Ross Halfin from Hammersmith Odeon 1979 whilst supporting Sammy Hagar - their first major public show in London.
The song reached number 61 in the UK charts.
The back of the sleeve had the song titles on a black background and a picture of a buckled cowboy boot.
This was used as the advertising artwork for the single.
It featured the slogan "...Putting the boot in." and also promoted the November 1979 support slot with AC/DC in the UK with all tour dates listed.
The band were originally booked to record a four song E.P. at the legendary Olympic Studios but their new management decided to scrap the release plans and instead issue this 7" single.
Videos for the songs were not used but have since surfaced via YouTube (in 2009).
Two clips including 'Wasted' were posted by the director of the shoot.
The other clip features the Olympic Studios recording of 'Rock Brigade' - never released on vinyl.
A finished version of the 'Rock Brigade' video from this shoot was posted on iTunes/Apple Music in 2018 following the band's new digital back catalogue deal.
Both songs and 'Rock Brigade' were all re-recorded in December 1979 for inclusion on the debut album.
All recordings from this session were eventually released on CD in 2018 on the first 'Collection Volume One' box set ('Wasted'. 'Hello America').
And ('Rock Brigade', 'Glad I'm Alive') in 2020 on 'The Early Years '79-'81' box set, the first time those songs had ever been released.
