The Joe Elliott Show - 8th November 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Apologies for my voice tonight — I am a small pony or a little hoarse! It’s one of those autumn colds that decimates your voice for about a week, and then it’s all fine.

It’ll be alright on the night, as will this show, because in the next 60 minutes or so I have got lined up, in my humble opinion, some fantastic tunes for you.

Including this beauty from The Police, from 1983.

The Police

That is The Police. The album is Synchronicity. The song we heard — one of two title tracks — was Synchronicity I.

Bon Jovi

Now, over the years, I’ve been very blessed to be able to guest perform on some great songs by some wonderful artists. I’m thinking the likes of Ian Gillan, Ronnie Wood, Ricky Warwick, The Struts, Ghost, and more recently, the Bad Company tribute album.

It is a song that I recently guest performed on, by a band that Def Leppard have been great mates with for almost 40 years. And their main man just recently inducted Def Leppard into the Rock and Roll Walk of Fame.

This is Bon Jovi.

And before that, we heard brand new Bon Jovi. I say “brand new” because the original version came from the album Forever, which was released last year. But because Jon couldn’t tour, he’s revamped the album with special guests, including the likes of Bruce Springsteen and yours truly.

And that’s me and Jon singing on record for the first time ever. We have shared a stage before, but this is the first time on record that we’ve ever sung together. It’s a beautiful bit of work called Walls of Jericho.

Hardy

Well, I just mentioned the Bad Company tribute album, so I thought — why not play yet another track from it? It’s a great album. This is my current favourite — it changes every other day — but this is my current favourite.

It is Hardy, with a great version of Ready for Love, originally recorded by Mott the Hoople in 1972, but featured on the debut album by Bad Company back in 1974.

Free

Talking once again of Bad Company — I was very sad to read this week that Paul Rodgers will not be attending the Hall of Fame ceremony. We’ve waited all these years for Bad Company to be inducted, and Paul Rodgers, for health reasons, cannot make the ceremony.

So, I want to celebrate what Paul Rodgers is all about with this next track. This is classic Free.

And before that, we heard Free, from the album Free Live! — one of the greatest live tracks, in my humble opinion, ever recorded. Incredible drumming from Simon Kirke, the bass playing from Andy Fraser is to die for, and Paul Kossoff — wow! I mean, there’s not much else you can say other than “wow.” And Paul Rodgers is, of course, Paul Rodgers — a brilliant, brilliant band.

Shame they didn’t really make it like Bad Company did. They’re in the Hall of Fame — Paul won’t be there, but he’ll be there in spirit — and Simon Kirke will be there, playing away with a bunch of guest musicians.

The song that we just heard, from said Free Live! album — Mr. Big.

The New Cars

Two incredible live tracks back-to-back right there. We just heard The New Cars, featuring Todd Rundgren on guitar and lead vocals, from an album called It’s Alive. The track originally featured on The Cars’ debut album, Moving in Stereo.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, we’re gonna have a bit of a lie down — or not! with Mick Ronson.

Mick Ronson

And before that, Mick Ronson, from his brilliant second album in 1975, Play Don’t Worry, with a song called The Empty Bed.

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

The night before our first ever gig in the States with Phil — which would have been spring of 1983 — we went to see that gentleman in the same venue that we would be playing about 20 hours later.

It is Bob Seger with his Silver Bullet Band, taken from the Ultimate Hits album Rock and Roll Never Forgets. The song we heard — Main Street.

Rush

Right — they’re on the road next summer for the first time in 10 years, with a brand new drummer in tow, and apparently a keyboard player as well. So let’s celebrate that. This is Rush.

And before that, we heard Rush, from 2112, with a wonderful bit of work called A Passage to Bangkok.

Roxy Music

Those guys made some incredible records, but for me, the song we just heard is from my favourite album they ever made. The album is Siren. The band is Roxy Music. The song that we heard is Whirlwind.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure, as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time — hopefully with a better voice!

So until then, I shall leave you with this, from the deluxe edition of Jailbreak. This is Thin Lizzy, with the Joe Elliott / Ronan McHugh remix of the song Emerald.

Until next week — see ya!
