Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott hosted another edition of his weekly radio show on 8th August on Planet Rock.

This week's show included songs by Rush, City Boy and Queen.

Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are ya?. Great to be with you once again, always a pleasure.

I have, in my humble opinion, some wonderful music lined up for you for the next sixty minutes or so.

So let's get cracking on this particular show sahall we.

This is Aerosmith featuring Yungblud.

Aerosmith/Yungblud

Now, the original version of that is fantastic, but this version absolutely bats that original right out of the park. This is just something else.

Taken from an EP that came out last year called One More Time, it is Aerosmith and Yungblud, with a great remake of “Back In the Saddle”.

Rush

And talking of being back in the saddle, you'll be well aware, if you're a big rock fan, that there's a specific three-piece power trio from Canada that are now resurrected. Shall we use the word “resurrected”? With a fantastic drummer called Anika Nilles.

Of course, that band is Rush, but let's have a listen to what they were getting up to in 2004 when they decided to make a covers album.

And before that, we heard the tighty Rush from way back in 2004. The album is Feedback, a great collection of covers. The one that we just heard is the old Yardbirds classic “Shapes of Things”.

Alice Cooper

From one of the greatest albums that that band ever made, it is Alice Cooper from the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies, with the song “Generation Landslide”.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

Right, we're putting the electrics down for a little while and picking up the acoustics for these next couple of tracks, starting off with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Emerson, Lake Ad Palmer

(The part where Joe would have talked about these two songs got cut out and went right into the next bit before the usual mid-show ad break.)

Coming up, it is said you either go big or you go home, so we're gonna go big with Utopia.

Utopia

And before that, we heard Utopia, featuring the very talented Mr. Todd Rundgren, from the 1977 album Ra.

Now, I saw them at Knebworth in ’79, opening for Zeppelin, and they didn't play that song, and I was very annoyed. But I love it so much, I thought I'd also give that a spin out tonight.

It is “Overture: Mountain Top and Sunrise / Communion with the Sun”.

City Boy

Now, when Def Leppard played Birmingham last month, specifically July the 4th, I did a show that featured bands from and around the area of Birmingham. One band that didn't get played was the band that we just heard.

It is City Boy.

The album was produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange. The album is also called City Boy, and the song that we heard is a wonderful bit of work called “Deadly Delicious”.

Queen

Right then, there's only really one phrase to introduce the next couple of songs:

“Let there be drums.”

And before that, we heard the wonderful Queen from their debut album, but it is the 2024 remix of said album, with a fantastic bit of work called “Liar”.

Cozy Powell

True story: back in the ’80s, I went on holiday once and I was very drunk, and I entered a talent competition, and I played that particular song, and I came second. And I think a puppet won it.

However, moving swiftly on, that is Cozy Powell, taken from the best glam rock album in the world ever, with “Dance with the Devil”.
