Show Intro
Evening all, and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
In fact, it is the eight hundredth Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Can you believe that?
They’ve kept me around this long.
God knows why, but I’m glad that they have, because it’s an absolute pleasure to do this for you once a week, just for the one hour.
But that is all we’ve got — the one hour — and I’ve got some fantastic music lined up for you tonight.
Some new stuff, some extremely new stuff, and an absolute world exclusive coming up real soon.
But let’s get the show started with this beauty of a re-record from Aerosmith, featuring Yungblud.
Aerosmith/Yungblud
Now, I’m sure the argument regarding re-records rages on up and down the country all the time.
Are they any good?
Is there any validity to it?
What’s the point?
Etc.
Well, I know we’ve done it, Taylor Swift’s done it, loads of artists have done it, and now Aerosmith featuring Yungblud have done it.
And I’m just wondering whether it is the special ingredient that was born in Doncaster that makes me think that I actually prefer this version to the original — which I do love — but this has just got some added magic.
And maybe it is Yungblud.
Taken from an EP called One More Time, it is Aerosmith featuring, of course, Yungblud — the 2025 Mix of “Back in the Saddle.”
Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Right, I did mention at the top of the show that I’ve got a world exclusive, and I’m going to play it for you right now.
This has never been heard outside of the sanctuary, if you like, of the artists themselves and their close relatives and the engineers, etc., etc.
This goes back to 1975, to the Sheffield City Hall.
Ladies and gentlemen, never heard before, from an upcoming box set out in March: this is The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
And before that, how brilliant was that — The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, live from the Sheffield City Hall back in 1975, from the personal tapes of David Batchelor, who was their sound guy and produced a few of their albums, actually.
It’s a 21-CD box set coming out.
It’s called What Else? Good Evening Boys and Girls, and they’re launching it at the Òran Mór in Glasgow on the 10th of December.
There’s going to be a Q&A with Zal, Chris, and Dave Batchelor — well worth getting to if you can.
Sadly I can’t, but I shall be keeping my ear to the ground to see what’s going on.
I cannot wait to hear the rest of this.
What we just heard, as I said, live from the City Hall in Sheffield, was a wonderful version of “Midnight Moses.”
Bring it on, guys, bring it on.
Cheap Trick
From their latest album All Washed Up.
Which is a great album, by the way.
That was Cheap Trick with a wonderful bit of work called “Bad Blood.”
Queen
Well, that’s got me in a very celebratory mood, so let’s keep it going, shall we?
This week saw a birthday amongst the band, and one next week as well.
So, happy birthday Phil for next week.
Sav, happy birthday for the 2nd of December.
Gonna play a couple of tunes that will warm the cockles of their hearts, starting off with one of Sav’s favourites.
This is Queen.
And before that, Sav’s favourite band of all time, Queen, from their brilliant third album Sheer Heart Attack, with the Roger Taylor-fronted “Tenement Funster.”
Deep Purple
Yes, the first band Phil ever saw live was Deep Purple, so I thought it appropriate to play a tune from said band, from the album Machine Head.
It is the 2024 remix, however, done by Dweezil Zappa.
And I wonder — did Dweezil get that gig because they mentioned his dad in “Smoke on the Water”?
Well, we must find that one out.
The song we heard: “Highway Star.”
You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show — the 800th Joe Elliott Show — right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.
Coming up, we’re going to hear three sides to Extreme.
Extreme
And before that, Extreme, from the album Three Sides to Every Story.
I wonder if they’ll play this next summer.
I must ask.
Who knows — hell of a challenge.
The song that we heard: “Everything Under The Sun II. Am I Ever Gonna Change.”
Robert Plant
It suits him, don’t you think?
I think it does.
I think it suits the voice.
I think it suits the man that he is now.
It is Robert Plant with his new project Saving Grace.
What we heard was “Everybody’s Song.”
Toby and The Whole Truth
Right, here’s something else brand new for you.
Welcome back Toby and the Whole Truth.
And before that, we heard Toby and the Whole Truth — welcome back Toby Jepson.
The album is called Toby and the Whole Truth: Look Out Volume 2.
The song we heard: “Don’t Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star.”
Black Eyed Sons
The band are The Black-Eyed Sons.
The album is Cowboys in Pinstriped Suits, and that is the latest release from their debut album, featuring Alan Clayton from The Dirty Strangers.
It is a great cover of an old Mink DeVille song called “Savoir Faire.”
Show Outro
And there, my dear friends, my 800th show for Planet Rock is about it for this week.
It’s been a real pleasure, as always.
But you know that — I say it every week, and I mean it every week.
I will be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don’t go anywhere.
Until then, let’s go out with this beauty: it’s The Psychedelic Furs, from an album called Midnight to Midnight, with “Pretty in Pink.”
Till next week — see ya.
