The Joe Elliott Show - 2nd May 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Great to be with you once again. Got some great tunes lined up for tonight. It's a very varied show tonight.

It's all over the place.

But I mean that in a good way and we're gonna start off with a band that I've never heard of before.

But they don't half sound familiar. This is The Cockroaches.

The Cockroaches

Yes, they're not fooling anyone are they and I'm certainly not fooling you that is indeed The Cockroaches, or should I say The Rolling Stones.

Brand-new music - follow-up to their Hackney Diamonds album from 2023.

I'm hoping back in the studio once again with Andrew Watt because he did such a fantastic job on that last album.

I don't know what the album is gonna be called. The band certainly wouldn't be The Cockroaches I doubt.

It is the Rolling Stones - a brand new song called Rough And Twisted.

Dixon House Band

While I did warn you it's pretty varied this show. So here we go. This is the Dixon House band.

And before that we heard The Dixon House Band.

The song I heard on radio one way back in the late 70s - couldn't believe that they were actually playing it.

So I went along as a as a 17 18 year old kid bought the single.

It is from an album called Fighting Alone the song we heard Sooner Or Later.

Horslips

Yes, long before Thin Lizzy had their huge success and U2 had their even huger success there was Horslips from Ireland.

I saw them live at the Top Rank in Sheffield a couple of times and they were absolutey amazing like a cross between Celtic rock and Jethro Tull.

From an album called Book Of Invasions we just heard Power And The Glory.

Bad Company

Alright, let's do some straight shooting shall we this is Bad Company.

And before that Bad Company wonderful stuff from their second album back in 1975.

The album is Straight Shooter the song we heard great vocal performance from Paul Rodgers Wild Fire Woman.

Nick Drake

As I'm sure some of you would agree when you're sitting in a bath with candles and low lighting. You're not likely to be playing Ace Of Spades by Motorhead.

Well, maybe some of you would but I certainly wouldn't. I would listen to that when I'm getting ready to go out.

But when you're relaxing there's nothing better trust me than listening to a bit of Nick Drake.

And there he is from the album Brighter Later with Hazy Jane One.

You are listening to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, We're gonna be staring into the sunburst finish of Be Bop Deluxe.

Be Bop Deluxe

And before that from the same year 1976 we heard Be Bop Deluxe the album Sunburst Finish the song that we heard the opening track Fair Exchange.

Steve Hillage

Be careful there sunshine you might just do yourself a damage. What a great way to end a song.

That is Steve Hillage backed by Todd Rundgren's Utopia. They were pretty much the backing band on the album.

It was Utopia with Steve Hillage playing guitar produced by Todd Rundgren.

Wonderful record the album is L the song we heard a cover of the old Donovan classic Hurdy-Gurdy Man.

Cheap Trick

Right, then if you like standing on the edge, you might just like this. This is Cheap Trick.

And before that we heard Cheap Trick from the album Standing On The Edge and what an album it is - the song we heard Tonight. It's You.

Earl Slick

Well, if you think that's a David Bowie song, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that because it can it is but it isn't really.

It's actually an Earl Slick solo album from 2003 which featured a bunch of different singers like Robert Smith from The Cure.

Yours truly and of course David Bowie, which is why you may have thought it was a David Bowie song.

The album is called Zig Zag the song we just heard Isn't It Evening.

Show Outro

And that my dear friends is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So don't go anywhere.

I must just say this though.

This is my last show with my producer James Pllu who has been looking after me for a very long time.

But he is moving on to bigger and better things. He's moving up in the world at Planet Rock.

So congratulations James and can I just say it's been a real pleasure working with you all these years and good luck in your new role and don't be a stranger.

So until next week when I will be edited by a completely different person.

I'm not sure who yet. I will leave you with this masterpiece from the album Kitsch in 1976 this is The Heavy Metal Kids and Squallity Inn.

Until next week. See ya!.
