Show Intro
"Hello mateys, welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Tonight is part two of my 1973 special, tying in with a brand new release by Def Leppard Just Like '73."
"This is the rockier week."
"Last week was the pop week where opinions were no doubt polarized because I played the likes of the Osmonds."
"Well, at least I didn't play Alvin Stardust, which by the way, My Coo Ca Choo is a pretty damn good song."
"However, we're not going anywhere near that this week."
"We are sticking with the rockier side of things."
"So let's get started, this is the mighty Quo."
Status Quo
"What a fantastic way to start the show off."
"They really were at the top of their game, weren't they?."
"From arguably their greatest album, Hello, that is Status Quo with Caroline."
Alice Cooper
"Now, if you were paying super attention last week, you'll have noticed that bar one, every single artist was from the UK."
"Well, this week, not so much. So say hello and hurray to Alice Cooper."
"And before that, we heard Alice Cooper from that fantastic album that is Billion Dollar Babies with the opening track, Hello, Hooray."
Sensational Alex Harvey Band
"Now, as I mentioned last week, there's so many great songs came out in 1973 that I would need a day, not an hour to play them all."
"I really wanted to play Faith Healer by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band tonight, but it's seven and a half minutes."
"It's just too long."
"That particular spot has been saved for something just as spectacular that's coming up."
"So we're going to go with, as we just heard there, the equally brilliant Swampsnake from the album Next."
Montrose
"So we'll stay on that side of the big pond for a while and head over to the City by the Bay from one of the greatest debut albums of all time."
"This is Montrose."
"And talking of great guitarists and singers, wow. Just wow."
"Ronnie Montrose and Sammy Hagar with, in my humble opinion, the greatest rhythm section to ever come out of America."
"Denny Carmassi on drums and Bill Church on bass."
"From their debut album, we heard Montrose with Bad Motor Scooter."
Joe Walsh
"He's just done a lap around the UK with the Eagles, but there he is solo long before he joined that particular band."
"It is the wonderful Joe Walsh from an album called The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get."
"Nope, I don't get it either, but I do get the song."
"A wonderful bit of work called Rocky Mountain Way."
"What a great guitarist Joe Walsh is."
"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show on Planet Rock, part two of my 1973 special."
"Coming Up, A Real Rock and Roll Animal."
Lou Reed
"That, my friends, is one of the greatest intros to a song that you will ever hear."
"And he's played by the most wonderful guitarists in Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner."
"They lent their talents to the likes of Alice Cooper, but there they are with Lou Reed from a great live album called Rock And Roll Animal."
"What we just heard was intro and what an intro, forward stroke, Sweet Jane."
Elton John
"Now I'm sure everyone out there has got their favourite song that they like to get ready to when they're going out for a night on the lash."
"Well, this is mine."
"And before that we heard Elton John from one of the greatest double albums ever made, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
"We heard Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting."
The Who
"Now, to use my favourite double negative, I couldn't not play a song from this particular band, from this particular year, because it's from a very fantastic piece of work."
"The album is Quadrophenia, the band is The Who, the song the most beautiful, Love Rain O'er Me."
Show Outro
"And that, my friends, just about brings us to the end of part two of my 1973 special."
"I have to say I'm very tempted to do parts three and four, but maybe we should just give it a break for a little while and see how it goes."
"So let's finish with this and sadly it is the edited version because we have absolutely run out of time."
"From the album Vagabonds Of The Western World, this is Thin Lizzy and The Rocker."
"Until next week, see ya!."
