The Joe Elliott Show - 21st March 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. How are you?

Great to be with you once again, in my humble opinion. I have for you tonight some wonderful music.

Starting off with this beauty. Let’s get pretty vicious, shall we? This is The Struts.

The Struts

Forgive me if I’ve mentioned this before, but recently we became stablemates ourselves with The Struts. We are now under the same management.

So I really look forward to working with these guys live at some point down the road — not sure when, not sure where. But hopefully we will. And there they are from their latest album from a couple of years ago.

The album is Pretty Vicious. The song that we heard: “Rock Star.”

Motorhead

Now here’s a couple of tunes back-to-back that prove that the rhythm is just as important as the riffage.

Starting off with Motörhead.

And before that we heard Motörhead from the album Bad Magic, and I played this because just a week or so ago…

Sadly, we lost Phil Campbell to the great gig in the sky, the longest-serving member of Motörhead outside of Lemmy.

So rest in peace — or rock in peace — Phil Campbell. The song that we heard was Motörhead’s version of The Rolling Stones classic “Sympathy for the Devil.”

The Who

From the album Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy.

That is The Who with “Magic Bus”.

Mott

Right, let’s do some shouting and pointing, shall we? This is Mott.

And before that, the band that Ian left when they were Mott the Hoople — they shortened their name to Mott, carried on with a new singer and a new guitarist, made two albums — and the song that we just heard is from that second album, Shouting and Pointing, also 1976.

The song we heard was once covered by the Down ’n’ Outz — of course, “Storm.”

Ian Hunter

Wonderful stuff there from Ian Hunter’s second solo album back in 1976.

The album is All American Alien Boy, and did you recognize those backing vocals on the chorus? Of course you did.

They were, of course, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and Freddie Mercury from Queen, who on landing in New York discovered that Ian Hunter was in the studio.

They went down to say hi and said, “What do you need us to do?” And they supplied the backing vocals on that wonderful song called “You Nearly Did Me In.”

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, we just heard Queen singing backing vocals for Ian Hunter. We’re going to hear them in their full glory.

Queen

And before that, we heard Queen from the 2024 remix of that astonishing debut album Queen, which is now called Queen I, with a great bit of work called “Liar.”

Roger Daltery

Co-written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney, and produced by ’50s/’60s heartthrob Adam Faith.

That is Roger Daltrey’s debut solo single back in 1973. The song is called “Giving It All Away.”

Humble Pie

Now for these next couple of tunes, we’re going to get all swampy-like — you’re going to love this.

Starting off with Humble Pie.

And before that we heard Humble Pie with their version of a song written by Tina Turner, taken from their album Eat It. It’s 1973. The song is “Black Coffee.”

The Doobie Brothers

From the oddly titled album What Once Were Vices Are Now Habits from 1974.

That is The Doobie Brothers with “Black Water".

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, that is about it for this week — been a real pleasure as always.

I should be back with you next week at exactly the same time, but all the way from India, because in about an hour’s time I’m jumping on a flight to Mumbai.

We have three shows over there — never played a gig over there in the 49 years that we’ve been together — so really looking forward to that.

So until then, I shall leave you with this from the album Rocks.

This is Aerosmith and “Back in the Saddle.” Until next week — see ya.
