Show Intro

Hola Amigos. Que Pasa?. Yes that is me speaking Spanish.

Why am i speaking Spanish you ask?.

Well because I am in León in Mexico where Def Leppard are doing a one-off show.

We have no shows until May but we were offered the opportunity to play this mad crazy show in León.

And we said why not. Who's gonna turn down the chance to rock for an hour or two, not I!.

And I'm not gonna turn down the chance to rock right now for an hour either.

You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock and you are about to listen to Montrose.

Montrose/Vivian Campbell News

Yeah, it's been a bit of a mad crazy week in Lepland. In fact, it's been a mad crazy week in a lot of places.

This show in León has been booked for a long time, so we are honouring a commitment as you do.

But sadly we're a man down because Vivian Campbell is not playing this show. He's in treatment for cancer. He's doing really well, but he's not allowed to travel.

So John Zocco is playing guitar. John Zocco happens to be Phil's guitar tech. He's one of the crowd, he's one of the crew, he's one of the boys.

We didn't want to get some stranger in and John is a more than capable replacement. He's not Viv, but it'll work out okay for this one show.

And we were supposed to be rehearsing in Los Angeles. That didn't happen because of the Palisades and Malibu fires, so we had to move to Vegas for a few days.

Luckily, we scrambled a rehearsal room and some hotel rooms. And then back in LA for a few days when everything calmed down.

So it's been a crazy 10, 12 days. But listen, your heart has to go out to all these people. I know Adrian from Maiden lost his house. Lots of people that we know lost their houses.

And we're really, you know, there's really, you're kind of lost for words. You don't know what to say. It's just totally heartbreaking.

So what are these people gonna do when they want to get their lives back on track? Are they going to abandon or are they going to rebuild?

Well, I say, like the Pink Fairies said, don't think about it. Just do it.

Pink Fairies

And before that, taken from a collection called The Golden Years, 1969 to 1971, it is the Pink Fairies with Do It.

Hanoi Rocks

I remember when I saw them live in 1984 at The Marquee in London, and they were absolutely phenomenal. Always been one of my favourite bands.

It's Hanoi Rocks from the album Two Steps From The Move, the song I Can't Get It.

Pat Travers

Right then, putting it straight as he was very capable of doing, this is Pat Travers.

And before that, we heard Pat Travers from the album Putting It Straight with a great tune called Gettin Betta.

Queen

If you've listened to my show long enough, you'll know that I always rave about Roger Taylor and specifically his voice.

I mean, the guy was the drummer in Queen and he had Freddie Mercury as a compatriot and Brian May.

I mean, these guys could really sing, but Roger's lead voice is absolutely stunning as can be heard on most of that song.

It is from the album The Game. It is Queen, of course, with Rock It (Prime Jive).

You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show coming to you all the way from León in Mexico this week.

Coming up, we're going slow dancing with Robert Plant.

Robert Plant

And before that, Robert Plant from his debut solo album back in 1982. The album is Pictures At Eleven, the song Slow Dancer.

The Alan Parsons Project

I'll never forget hearing that song week in, week out at the Improvisions Rock Club in Sheffield back in the mid to late 70s.

It is the Alan Parsons Project from the album Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. It is The Raven.

Rick Springfield

Okay, let's go and have a quick peep into the invisible world of Rick Springfield.

And before that, we had Rick Springfield from his most recent album, which is called Automatic, with a great little tune called Invisible World.

Lindisfarne

They were such a fantastic band. That music will just live on forever.

It is Lindisfarne from that wonderful album that is called Nicely Out Of Tune. The song is Clear White Light.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this week, a week which has been equal parts traumatic and emotional and just downright strange.

Hopefully, everything will settle down and we'll all be back to normal again next week.

And so until then, I shall leave you with this.

Taken from their Best Of collection, this is Sham 69 with If The Kids Are United.

Until next week, see ya!
