The Joe Elliott Show - 16th May 2026 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again.

We have 60 little minutes to play, in my humble opinion, what is some wonderful music.

Starting off with this crowd who love to run with the pack.

Bad Company

It is Bad Company from their third album in 1976. That is Run With The Pack by Bad Company, the song that we just heard: “Sweet Little Sister.”

Alice Cooper

Right, with a very cautionary tale on how important it is that we occasionally visit the dentist. This is Alice Cooper.

Before that, we heard Alice Cooper with that very cautionary tale about making sure you get those little nibblers checked out now and again. It is from the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies: “Unfinished Sweet.”

Faces

Well, it took two people to replace Steve Marriott in Small Faces, namely Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood.

Just goes to show how important in rock and roll Steve Marriott was. But they went from Small Faces to Faces, and what a band they became.

That is from their first album, First Step. The song is “Flying.”

Down 'N' Outz

Now, I don't want to labour the point about last week's show too much. It was a very emotional show for me, and there's a couple of songs that I could have played, and probably should have played, but I just ran out of time.

So I am gonna play them this week, and mostly this first one just because I think it's a great song.

This is The Down 'n' Outz.

Before that, we heard The Down 'n' Outz from the 2019 — wow, it's seven years ago — third album, This Is How We Roll, with what I think is one of the best things I've ever written actually, a song called “Last Man Standing.”

The Rolling Stones

I did contemplate playing “Rest in Peace” by Mott the Hoople, but it just seemed a little too obvious. So I thought, no, I'm gonna play this one because it's just as poignant for me.

The very aptly titled “Out Of Tears” by The Rolling Stones from the album Voodoo Lounge.

You're listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up: he's gonna put his hands on you, live in '75, all the way from Sheffield.

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Before that, we heard The Sensational Alex Harvey Band live from Sheffield City Hall on the 13th of May 1975, so that is 51 years ago this week. Unbelievable stuff from a 21-CD box set — I think it's 21. There's way too many to try and get through in like seven days, so I'm having to take my time.

But the box set is called Good Evening Boys and Girls and it is absolutely sensational, just like the band were.

What we just heard was a brilliant live version of “Faith Healer.”

10CC

The original lineup of that band had a fantastic run of albums between 1973 and 1976, and there, from the last of that particular bunch of records, is 10cc.

The album is How Dare You!. The song that we just heard, a great bit of work called “Art For Art's Sake.”

Mott The Hoople

Well, let's kick it up a notch and throw some mad shadows.

This is not Mott the Hoople.

Before that, the band that he would join in 1974 for a short while before he left with Ian Hunter for a solo career, if you like, for him and Ian worked together for a couple of years before they parted company and, over the years, kept getting back together and splitting up and getting back together again.

But just for a little while, he was in Mott the Hoople.

But this is the Mott the Hoople that featured Mick Ronson on guitar, who would later himself go on to join Bad Company.

It's like a history lesson listening to my show.

The album is Mad Shadows from 1970. The song that we heard: “Walking With A Mountain.”

Mick Ronson

Proving, if proof is even warranted, that not only was he a great guitarist, but he was no slouch on the piano either.

That is Mick Ronson from his debut solo album in 1974. The album is Slaughter On 10th Avenue, the song we heard, the David Bowie-written “Growing Up And I'm Fine.”

Show Outro

And that, my friends, that is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don't go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this from the album Country Life.

This is Roxy Music and “All I Want Is You.”

Till next week, see ya.
