The Joe Elliott Show - 16th August 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evenin’ all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on - you know where - yes, the wonderful Planet Rock.

This week, it’s coming to you all the way from Springfield, Illinois.

Now, did you know that in the United States, every single state has got a town or a city called Springfield?

That is why they chose the name for The Simpsons, so everybody felt at home when they were watching it.

Anyway, I digress - that’s got nothing to do with anything.

Let’s head from Springfield all the way to Belfast.

This is absolutely brand new Sweet Savage.

Sweet Savage

Yes, courtesy of one Mr. Vivian Campbell, that is absolutely brand-spanking-new Sweet Savage.

Now, of course, he’s not involved anymore - other than watching from the side.

In fact, he’s not been involved for a very long time.

I do believe that their biggest claim to fame was opening for Thin Lizzy back in 1979–1980, just before he joined Dio.

So that’s how long ago it is.

But that’s a brand new album in the making.

It’s not out yet, but I did get the opportunity to hear a couple of songs.

And what you just heard there is going to be the title track of the album when it finally comes out.

It is called "Bang."

Uriah Heep

Well, we’ve had a couple of visitations this week while we’ve been travelling across the USA.

I shall explain them after you’ve heard these next couple of songs.

Let’s start off with Uriah Heep.

Before that, we heard Uriah Heep, who of course feature the long-term - I think only surviving—member of the original lineup, Mick Box.

He didn’t come to see us, but his kid did—Mike—and I’ve known him for many, many years.

Def Leppard and Uriah Heep toured together in 1983, which is, what - 42 years ago?

That’s how long the Leps and the Heeps have been kind of joined at the hip.

And it was kind of nice to see the other night that Pantera and Uriah Heep were joined at the hip for a few minutes—via Def Leppard.

You couldn’t make it up.

Pantera

Just a few days ago, Def Leppard played a show in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We had a couple of people come back and say hi.

One of them happened to be a gentleman called Rex Brown, who is the bass player in Pantera—what a lovely, lovely guy.

Now, the reason I chose the song that we just heard is because when you think of Pantera, now their current guitarist is Zakk Wylde.

You think of Zakk Wylde, you think of Ozzy Osbourne.

And you think of Ozzy Osbourne, you think of Black Sabbath.

Which is why I just played Pantera’s version of the Sabbath song "Planet Caravan."

Martin Briley

Anyway, moving swiftly on—this is Martin Briley.

And before that, we heard Martin Briley—once the bass player in Greenslade, and also for a couple of years with Ian Hunter.

Taken from a box set called The Mercury Years, this is pretty much his one and only hit single in the USA: "The Salt in My Tears."

Lauren Monroe

Now here’s an interesting one for you.

That beautiful, smoky voice that you just heard belongs to a lady called Lauren Monroe.

Who’s Lauren Monroe, you ask?

Well, she just happens to be Mrs. Rick Allen.

Yes, she has her own solo career.

And that’s the song that Rick played me the other day when we were talking about old British bands.

Spooky Tooth came up, and then of course Gary Wright came up—he was the keyboard player in Spooky Tooth.

And that is a cover of an old Gary Wright tune.

It is Lauren Monroe with her version of "Love Is Alive."

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock, this week coming to you all the way from Springfield, Illinois.

Coming up - we’re gonna say a farewell to kings with Rush.

Rush

And before that, we heard Rush from the album A Farewell to Kings—all 11 minutes and 12 seconds of the epic: "Xanadu."

Yes

I absolutely adore the intro of that particular song - some incredible acapella vocals there from Yes.

The album is 90125, the song: "Leave It."

Extreme

Well, we’ve done a couple of gigs with these guys recently and we’ve got at least one more coming up pretty soon.

Really looking forward to seeing them again.

This is Extreme.

And before that, we heard Extreme with a wonderful bit of work called "Seven Sundays" from an album called Three Sides to Every Story.

See what I did there?

Ricky Warwick

Oh wow—talk about synchronicity.

As I’m recording this link, I’m getting a text in from Ricky Warwick.

You couldn’t make this up.

Yes - there he is, from his debut solo album back in 2002, I think it was.

And I should know that, because I did co-produce it with him.

The album is Tattoos & Alibis.

The song we heard: "Three Sides to Every Story."

Show Outro

Yep, you’re right - it’s time for me to go.

I shall take my leave of you right now, all the way from Springfield, Illinois.

And I will see you next week at exactly the same time from…I’m not really sure where.

Doesn’t matter.

But I look forward to being with you next week once again.

So until then, I shall leave you with this:

From an album called Earthling—no, it’s not David Bowie—it is Eddie Vedder with "The Power of Right."

Until next week - see ya.
