DEF LEPPARD Live In Springfield, IL 2025 (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played a 2025 tour show last night in Springfield, IL with 18 songs performed.

The show took place at the 15,000+ capacity Illinois State Fair Grandstand.

A second show in a row at a state fair.

The first visit to this city since August 2000 on the Euphoria tour.

Back In Springfield

From Iowa to Illinois and another return to a state fair.

This one not played since the Euphoria tour when they played the Illinois State Fair Grandstand for two years in a row.

A Grandstand that looks very much like the one in Des Moines but with a slightly smaller capacity of over 15,000.

The fair announced that Megan Moroney had broken the attendance record just a week or so before this show with a crowd of 15,532 at her 10th August concert.

Like a few other shows on this tour, this is a city not often played with the band preferring to play other cities in this state like Chicago and Peoria.

One of the first times since back on the 1999/2000 Euphoria tour that they've played multiple State Fair shows and back to back ones.

And as Joe pointed out in many interviews they played State Fairs on the Pyromania, Hysteria and Adrenalize tours at the height of their 80s/90s popularity.

So not unusual venues for the band.

Would the weather be good for this outdoor show?.

And would they break this new attendance record?.

We'll have to wait to find out the exact attendance figure but it appears it was very full so possibly over 15,000.

As for the weather it was over 30C and very hot with many fans commenting on just how hot it was before and during the show.

Phil X & The Drills

Bon Jovi guitarist Phil X supported the band for a second show with his solo band The Drills.

For this show the band played a 12 song setlist that included their latest single 'Fake The Day Away'.

And also a cover of AC/DC's 'Walk All Over You' and Jimi Hendrix Experience's 'Fire' - as once covered by Manraze.

A certain drummer was also side stage watching the band 39th years after playing a large festival show in England only 20 months after a major car accident.

Hot Rock In Illinois

Like Des Moines this show started at around 9:15pm.

And like the last show today marks an anniversary of a previous show at this venue and event.

A much more bare stage area at this show with nothing covering the metal structure of the stage.

A video screen at back behind Rick and no massive video wall side screens.

Instead two very small projector style screens further down than usual and away from each side of the stage.

No room for the band's own big lighting rig so the festival's own one was used instead.

But as seen in the videos and photos by fans the usual stage set up on the stage floor was used with the circular LED lights giving fans another great display.

The stage was set up on the in field of the classic speedway style dirt race track which was still being used for racing events earlier in the day.

GA fans were standing on the race track in front of the sage with other fans seated in the big Grandstand behind them just the distance of the track away.

Giving them a great view of the show (apart from some behind the safety fence).

The fans higher up getting the best view of another great show with the band once again in top form.

By 'Rock Of Ages' the crowd were almost as loud as the band.

Thundergod Anniversary

Yes this show marked exactly 29 years since the famous big comeback show at the Donington Monsters Of Rock festival in England.

Where, after six Irish warm-ups shows, the band returned to the big stages for the first time since the Pyromania tour and since Rick's accident.

Hottest Show/Loudest Crowd

The crowd were singing along so much that they got acknowledged by Joe at the end of the night as being possibly the loudest crowd yet of this tour.

He also started his end of show speech by declaring the band all agreed this was by far the hottest gig yet of the 2025 tour.

Fortunately for them this was the last outdoor show for a while with over a week before they return to a state fair and amphitheatres in Minnesota and Virginia.

Three days off from the tour now for the band but also some work tomorrow as they tape the America's Got Talent show.

Just one or two songs to be played live in Pasadena, California.

And to be broadcast on the 20th when they will be on stage in Highland, CA for the next show.

18 Song Setlist

An 18 song setlist was played.

'Just Like '73', 'This Guitar' and also 'Switch 625' were all played here for the first time.

Switch not played previously due to all the massive gaps between shows here.

Springfield History

The first visit to Springfield took place in September 1981 supporting Ozzy Osbourne on the Blizzard Of Ozz tour.

That show took place indoors at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

A venue they returned to for their first headline (and In The Round) show here in July 1988 on the Hysteria tour.

Local fans would have to wait until August 1999 for a return when they made their debut at Illinois State Fair on the Euphoria tour.

They would not have to wait too long for them to return as they came back for the last show in this city at the same event in August 2000.

Although some fans may have still been disappointed that the show had to be shortened meaning they did not get 'Paper Sun', 'Gods Of War', and 'Excitable' at that show.

Last night's show was the 5th performance in Springfield.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Highland, CA on 20th August (TV taping on 18th in Pasadena, CA).
