Show Intro

"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"I'm just back home from a couple of weeks in LA where we were rehearsing for this upcoming US tour with Journey and Steve Miller and occasionally Heart and Cheap Trick."

"It's gonna be a wonderful thing. I'm glad to be home for a couple of weeks, brought my homework, but I shall get on to that next week."

"Right now we have a great radio show that we have to get on with."

"I'm really looking forward to these next 60 minutes."

"So we got one hour."

"Let's start off with a bit of Paul Stanley."

Paul Stanley

"Play something from Paul Stanley this week because where we rehearse out in what's known as the Valley is a huge big lock up space where loads of bands leave their gear and have a rehearsal space."

"Bands like Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard and Kiss who have actually technically retired but all their gear has to be stored somewhere and it's right next door to where we were."

"And Paul found out that we were in town so he came and said hi and we went over to the Kiss lock up and it was fascinating to see all their fantastic old costumes just lined up in these like wardrobe areas."

"And then just around the corner all Paul's guitars."

"And I found him and Phil doing what guitarists do, looking at these things with six strings on them and just raving over how great the pickups are."

"I'm sure there's pictures on social media but I thought I'd play something from his debut solo album released in 1978 on exactly the same day as the other then three current members of Kiss."

"It's the album Paul Stanley, it's the song Wouldn't You Like To Know Me."

Mott The Hoople

"Friends it's what's known as a holy grail moment if you're a Mott The Hople fan, always rumoured to exist but there was no proof until 1999."

"I got really pally with Overend Watts in the 80s so I actually did know and I had a copy of it for many many years but it saw the light today when they finally released their Anthology box set."

"It's a song which featured on Ian Hunter's debut album in 1975 but that is a version by Mott The Hoople featuring Mick Ronson, one of the only two recordings he played on from 1974."

"That is their version of Lounge Lizard."

Robert Plant/Alison Krauss

"Now here's another brand new piece of work for you and this is an absolutely fantastic rework of a classic Led Zeppelin song that we all know and love so well."

"This is Robert Plant with Alison Krauss."

"And before that we heard absolutely brand new live version of When The Levee Breaks from 2024."

"So it's actually from this year Alison Krauss who I'm a big fan of and I think it's kind of reciprocated because Alison played or sang rather on Diamond Star Halos on the song called This Guitar with Def Leppard just a couple of years ago."

"But she's been working with Robert since 2007 they worked together so well and it is a wonderful version of that old Led Zeppelin classic When The Levee Breaks."

The Rolling Stones

"I know it's a hard call because when we're familiar with some work that's been around for 30, 40, 50 years and then that band releases a new record it's hard for that album."

"And I would say exactly that about the Rolling Stones album Hackney Diamonds."

"It's got to be one of the top five albums that they've ever made and it might even be higher up than number five."

"The song we just heard there which I absolutely love is Depending on You."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"Coming up The Darkness are about to make a very radical statement."

The Darkness

"And before that we heard The Darkness the album is called Easter Is Cancelled and it gets worse than that because Justin believes that Rock And Roll Deserves To Die."

"Justin I'm sorry but I beg to differ."

The Zombies

"Now my friends there's an album is absolutely brand new to me but was actually released in 2012."

"It's a fantastic live recording of The Zombies at the Metropolis Studios in London."

"Now I'm telling you this I could sit and listen to Colin Bluntstone sing all day long he's absolutely fantastic."

"And to see him and Rod Argent back together again is a wonderful thing."

"And to have the two of them on stage with Def Leppard when we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

"With Rod playing the Hammond on All The Young Dudes and Colin Bluntstone along with a plethora of other fantastic singers doing the chorus was something that I will never forget."

"But there is a wonderful version of the old Argent classic Hold Your Head Up sung not by Russ Ballard this time but actually by Colin Bluntstone a nice little crossover there."

"Wonderful stuff."

Sparks

"Right back to a time where us young kids would just flip when we flipped the single and found a track that wasn't on the accompanying album."

"This is one of those this is Sparks."

"And before that Sparks."

"It's a bonus track these days on Kimono My House I believe."

"It was the B-side of Amateur Hour."

"It's a wonderful bit of work some great bass work actually the song is Barbercutie."

U2

"I remember the first time I heard that I was driving and I literally had to pull the carover and just listen to it and I remember thinking they've done it again."

"They've gone and done it again and I love the tip of the hat to Children Of The Revolution by T-Rex in the middle of that song that."

"Taken from their best of 1990 to 2000 and also featured on the original soundtrack of one of the Batman movies is You Too with Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week."

"It's been a real pleasure as always."

"I should be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So don't go anywhere."

"Until then I'm going to play you a track from an album that I owned as a 10 year old kid and absolutely loved it."

"And still do and it's not the kind of music that a 10 year old normally listens to but hey I was ahead of my time what can I tell you."

"This from 1970 from an album called Cosmos Factory is Credence Clearwater Revival with Up Around The Bend."

"Until next week see ya!."
