Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Looks like Spring has sprung. It's wet, but it's not cold and it's sunny and I like that. It's great here in Dublin at the moment. Weather's very fine. Hope everybody else out there is feeling fine too. We've got sixty minutes, 6, 0 one hour to play some, in my humble opinion, wonderful music. Gonna start off with a song which is quite possibly the most lo fi thing I've ever started my show with. This is TV Smith and Richard Strange."

TV Smith/Richard Strange

"Now when I introduced that song as lo fi it was in no way meant as a criticism. I actually think it sounds really good. It's TV Smith, one the leader of The Adverts and Richard Strange. Once Kid Strange the leader of The Doctors Of Madness. Songs originally written in 1978 reimagined in 2023. The album is coming out soon. It is called A Dffrnt Wrld. With all the vowels taken out. And the song that we just heard to open the show. The Last Human Being In The World."

Roxy Music

"Right from the punk rock scene in the bowels of London, let's head our way up the M1 the North East for a couple of songs. Starting off with Roxy Music."

"And before that we heard Roxy Music from their second album back in 1973. The album is For Your Pleasure. The track, the opening song, and one of the best things that they ever did, Do The Strand."

Free

"Back in 2011 when my little side band the Down 'n' Outz opened for Paul Rodgers, he played that song every night and it went down an absolute storm. It has always been one of my favourite Free songs. And there it is taken from The Free Story. The song is My Brother Jake."

Last In Line

"Right from Do The Strand to Do The Work. This is brand new Last In Line."

"And before that brand new Last In Line. From what I think is essentially the best album they've ever made. Specifically production wise. It's a really really good record. The album is called Jericho. Some fantastic singing by Andrew. And the song we heard. The first singe to be released from said album, Do The Work."

Mick Ronson

"You know just like in 1972 when David Bowie incredibly gave away one of the greatest songs ever written to Mott The Hoople essentially resurrecting their career. The song of course is All The Young Dudes. He did the same thing when his wingman went solo in 1974. Yes Mick Ronson debut album Slaughter On 10th Avenue featured a song written by David Bowie. We just heard it. it's a fantastic bit of work called Growing Up And I'm Fine."

Roger Waters

"And before that well what do you do in lockdown. You twiddle your thumbs and do nothing. Or like us, like U2, like Roger Waters. You do something. You revisit your old work or you write some new songs. We did both. Roger Waters has revisited some old Pink Floyd. And there you hear the results. Now I do miss Dave Gilmour's guitar solo. But it's interesting. I'll say that much. And it specifically sounds great on headphones. It's the 2022 redo by Roger Waters of Comfortably Numb."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up we're gonna hear hat Roger Waters got up to during lockdown."

Public Image Ltd

"Now forget any preconceptions that you might have about John Lydon. I've met him. I've met him a bunch of times. I think he's a really decent bloke. And he's gone way up in my estimation because when you read about the fact that he's lost the love of his life at the age of 80. Nora Forster. To Alzheimer's, one of the most terrible disease's on the planet. Just seems to be taking over the whole place at the moment. You can't help but feel for him. it's a fantastic thing that's he's been doing for the last few years. And he still manages to keep the band together. And they wrote a song. or he wrote a song about a specific vacation they took together. And I think it's a fantastic bit of work. It was put forward to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. It didn't get through which is a real shame 'cause I think it's a fantastic bit of work. The song is Hawaii. God bless you John Lydon."

Dave Berry

"Well if that was interesting, check this out."

"And what we heard before well that was the first song that Ian Hunter ever wrote and had published. Back in I'm guessing about 1965/66. It was by a guy in Sheffield called Dave Berry. Best known for the hit The Crying Game. That was actually the B-Side of that particular song. It is called I Will Learn To Dream. Boy hasn't he had some journey and come such a long way."

Note - A quick search reveals the song is actually called "And I Have Learned To Dream". And Ian Hunter used the pseudonym, Patterson on the credit. And according to various Mott discographies it was the B-Side to the single 'Forever' a Bee Gees cover released in August 1967.

Ian Hunter

"The album's out in a couple of week's time. I can't wait. Actually I've heard it. So on behalf of all you Ian Hunter fans out there. I can't wait. The album is Defiance Pt. 1. And that song that we just heard is the most recent song that Ian has released and written from that album. I Hate Hate."

Show Outro

"And talking of journey's. This particular hour long journey has just about come to an end folks. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So don't touch that dial. Why would ya?.

"Until then I shall leave you with this. They are currently making a brand new album. This is the last thing that they recorded in a studio that they wrote themselves. 2012. If the new album is up to this kind of standard it's gonna be a hell of a bit of work. This is The Rolling Stones and Doom And Gloom. Until next week see ya!."
