Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliot show right here on you know where, the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Always a pleasure to be with you."
"60 minutes is all I have, but I'm going to play you some wonderful music, not a Christmas song amongst them."
"So here we go, Unmasked."
"This is KISS."
KISS
"All the way back to 1980 and the first KISS album not to feature Peter Criss, the drums actually played by Anton Fig."
"It is the album Unmasked, the song we heard, Is That You?."
Iron Maiden
"Now it's time for a bit of an acknowledgement for a wonderful human being that I've known for many, many years, but I first met in 1977 when he autographed the back of my Pat Travers album."
"And we shall be hearing from Pat Travers in a few minutes."
"But first, here is the band that he has played drums for for 42 years and this week he's decided to retire from the road."
"So God bless you, Nicko McBrain, lovely, wonderful human being."
"Here he is with Iron Maiden."
"And before that we heard the band he has been in for nearly half a century, at least 42 years or so."
"On the album Peace Of Mind we heard Iron Maiden with The Trooper."
Pat Travers
"Two songs back to back there that both feature Nicko McBrain on the drums."
"We just heard Pat Travers from his 1977 second album Making Magic with Hooked On Music."
Black Eyed Sons
"Right from a gentleman who has decided to retire from the road to a band who can't wait to get back on it."
"A brand new band, albeit with very seasoned musicians involved."
"This is absolutely brand new, Black Eyed Sons."
"And before that, brand new Black Eyed Sons."
"The song is out on Monday and it's also the day of their first ever gig and it's at the Lexington in London."
"So if it's not sold out already, I would highly suggest that you get down there and check them out."
"It is called Cowboys In Pinstripe Suits, the song that we just heard, Don't Throw Me In The Corner."
Lindisfarne
"Renowned for their legendary Christmas shows at the Newcastle City Hall that went on for decades."
"What a wonderful band they were."
"This is Lindisfarne I'm talking about."
"The album Nicely Out of Tune, the song that we just heard, Clear White Light."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Coming up, we're going to go dancing the night away with the Motors."
The Motors
"And before that, we heard the Motors with a song once covered by Cheap Trick, one of my favourite bands of all time."
"But I have to say, I much prefer this version."
"It is the Motors, from their debut album in 1977, produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange."
"The song we heard, Dancing The Night Away."
Lynyrd Skynyrd
"I think it's safe to say that we can credit the Old Grey Whistle Test for breaking some great bands in the 70s."
"I saw a documentary once where one of the producers said that having had Focus on the show once, they sold 150,000 albums the following week."
"And I think the same can be said for the band that we just heard, having seen footage of them playing Freebird at Knebworth when they opened for the Rolling Stones."
"They really broke pretty big in the UK, which didn't happen a lot for a bunch of southern rockers from the USA, I've got to say."
"But that is Lynyrd Skynyrd and what a great band they were from the album Second Helping."
"We just heard Working for the MCA."
Free
"Right, a few minutes ago we heard Lindisfarne, one of the greatest bands from the North East of England."
"But in fairness, there's been a few, here's another one."
"This is Free."
"And before that, Free, fantastic band from the North East of the UK."
"They never quite made it big in the States, but they were huge in Britain."
"We all know all right now, but do we know this song we just heard?."
"It was the first single of theirs that I ever bought."
"It is My Brother Jake."
Ashton, Gardner and Dyke
"So this week, a friend of mine sent me a link to a YouTube clip of a 1971 Top Of The Pops Christmas Special, which I watched with much amusement."
"Like most Top Of The Pops, you'd see 20 minutes of dross and 10 minutes of genius."
"And this particular show was no different."
"There was a great live vocal from Rod Stewart on Maggie May and a brilliant, brilliant live vocal on the song that we just heard."
"From a band called Ashton, Gardner and Dyke that I don't know much about, other than there's a tenuous connection to Deep Purple."
"And Roy Dyke, the drummer, was on Pat Traver's debut album back in 1976."
"And there, taken from a collection called 25 Years of Rock and Roll 1971, is the recorded version of the song Resurrection Shuffle."
Show Outro
"And that, my friends, is about it for this week."
"It's been a real pleasure as always, but hey, you knew that."
"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please, please don't go anywhere."
"Where else would you want to be anyway?."
"So until then, I shall leave you with this from their second album back in 1974."
"The album is Paper Money."
"This is Montrose with a wonderful instrumental."
"Apologies to Sammy Hagar."
"Maybe next week, Sammy."
"This is Starliner."
"Till next week See ya!."
