Show Intro
"Evening everyone and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on you know where, the only place you ever need to be, Planet Rock."
"Great to be with you once again."
"We've got some wonderful tunes lined up for you tonight."
"A very eclectic collection of tunes, starting off with Roxy Music."
Roxy Music
"Ah, the heady days of when colour TV was a new thing or even a thing at all."
"I mean, imagine kids today thinking that programs used to be in black and white once."
"And when we saw the likes of David Bowie and T. Rex and the band that we just heard, Roxy Music, we thought they came from a different planet."
"As it happens, they came from art school mostly."
"But my goodness, they made some great music and there from their 1975 album Siren."
"We just did hear the wonderful Roxy Music with Whirlwind."
The Clash
"So from art rock to backstreet brawler rock, but with a brain and a message."
"This is The Clash."
"And before that, we heard The Clash from 1979, just because I believe it came out late December of '79, it's always thought of as an 80s album, however."
"It is London Calling the album, a double album."
"Who'd have thought a punk band would do a double album?."
"As I said, brains and a bit of brawn."
"It is Death Or Glory."
Cockney Rebel
"Now there's a band that did things a little bit differently, but yet still with a bit of a commercial twinge to it, which is wonderful stuff because it is Cockney Rebel."
"That, in fact, is the alternative version of one of their first ever hits, Mr. Soft, from the Cavaliers anthology collection."
Queen
"And now to the absolute opposite of that musical style."
"Yes, this band also had four impeccable brains, but they had their own special kind of magic."
"This is Queen."
"And before that, we heard Queen."
"Now let me tell you a little story about this."
"Back in late 85, early 86, Def Leppard were in London, and we just happened to bump into Brian May who said, 'Hello boys, want to come down and hear the new album?'."
"So we were invited en masse to the control room to listen to the mix of that particular song."
"And let me just tell you, when you hear that on the big speakers, it has its own particular kind of magic."
"Absolutely wonderful stuff."
"From the album A Kind Of Magic, we just heard Princes Of The Universe."
Mick Ronson
"From his second solo album back in 1975, Play Don't Worry, that is the late great Mick Ronson with his almost hit single Billy Porter."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."
"Coming up, we're going to fire up the big generator with Yes.
Yes
"And before that, we heard Yes from that wonderful album from 1987 called Big Generator."
"The song that we heard, Shoot High, Aim Low."
Nick Drake
"I, like a lot of listeners I would imagine, have been watching with eyes glued to the screen, this latest series of that wonderful show that is Slow Horses."
"What a fantastic bit of work it is."
"And it was great to hear at the end of the last episode, a little bit of that gentleman that we just listened to there, Nick Drake."
"Taken from the album Five Leaves Left, we heard Cello Song."
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
"Now, talking of great music in great TV, there's another show that I'm watching at the moment that this next artist music is featured quite heavily in."
"Some originals and some great covers."
"The show is Bad Monkey."
"The artist, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers."
"And before that, we heard Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers from 1987."
"The album is Let Me Up, I've Had Enough."
"The song we heard, Jammin' Me."
AC/DC
"I still rank it as my favorite ever ACDC album and apparently so does Keith Richards."
"So at least we've got that in common."
"The album is Powerage from 1978."
"The song that we just heard, wonderful bit of work called Down Payment Blues."
Show Outro
"And that, my friends, is about it for this week."
"It's been a real pleasure, as always."
"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so don't go anywhere."
"Why would you ever want to?."
"Until then, I shall leave you with this."
"You may have seen earlier this week that the band Sweet released on their YouTube channel a long-lost recording of them doing a live version of Free's All Right Now in California."
"In 1976, I believe it was."
"It was five days after the passing of Paul Kossoff, who was due to be the opening act on this particular show."
"So as a tribute to Kossoff, they played Free's greatest ever known song."
"Who did they play it with, though?."
"They brought up a special guest, and that special guest was none other than Richie Blackmore."
"So I'm going to play this, because this song almost out-Deep Purple's Deep Purple."
"If you can just imagine what this would have sounded like if Richie Blackmore had of played on it."
"From the album Sweet Fanny Adams, this is indeed Sweet and Set Me Free."
"Until next week, see ya!."
