DEF LEPPARD Summer Stadium Tour 2024 In SAN ANTONIO, TX (Show Report/Setlist)
Def Leppard played a Summer Stadium Tour 2024 show last night in San Antonio, TX with 18 songs performed.
The show took place at the 72,000 capacity Alamodome.
The first show in this city since August 2022.
The second time at this venue.
Night Three In Texas
The Summer Stadium Tour moved to San Antonio for the third of the three shows in Texas.
Once again under a roof in the massive Alamodome.
The biggest venue played yet in 2024 with a capacity of 72,000.
A potential crowd of over 45,000 gathered to witness a show played on a very historic anniversary.
A huge crowd to celebrate the last night in Texas on the 2024 tour.
The seventh stadium show in this state in three years.
Def Leppard are definitely hot in Texas and this would be the theme of the night for the band and the crowd.
The Return Of The Thundergod!
Yes 38 years have now passed since the band played their first BIG show with Rick Allen after his 1984 car accident.
At Donington Park in Derby, England for the Monsters Of Rock festival headlined by Ozzy Osbourne/Scorpions.
The third year in a row this date has seen a Def Leppard stadium concert after Indianapolis in 2022 and Tulsa in 2023.
A date now played on 13 times since 1986.
The anniversary was not specifically mentioned by Joe but it turned out to be a very momentous show anyway.
Loud And Proud In San Antonio
The Steve Miller Band started the show at 6pm in the darkness of the Alamodome which was protected once again from the extreme Texan heat outside (37C).
Journey then played their set from 7:30pm onwards.
And then once more Def Leppard at 9:30pm to rock the dome with some Pyromania (and a lot of Hysteria).
Actually more like 9:35pm.
And happily after some slow shows online this one had a great broadcast from the start and all the way up to Photograph.
A brilliant full stage view and amazing sound quality.
And what a show it was by the band who were clearly in a mood to celebrate their final night of three in Texas.
The biggest crowd so far on the tour were also here to celebrate and make lots of noise.
Joe acknowledged this before 'Two Steps Behind' and again during 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak' (or BOTH as we call it).
San Antonio were the loudest so far in a throwback to the year 2000 when they were also the loudest and got a free MP3 of themselves posted online.
Cowboy Phil From Walthamstow
When Phil returned to the stage after his guitar change to start 'Foolin'' he looked a little different.
He had a big cowboy hat on - as seen in the photos below - in honour of the last night in Texas.
Under Fire Again
As if the show wasn't already awesome enough after the 'Hysteria' hits and the bouncing anthem that is 'Just Like '73' the 'Pyromania' section took things to another level.
Starting off once again with 'Comin' Under Fire'.
41 years after release it's now a regular and it kept its place for a second show in a row.
Sounding just as awesome as it did in June when it was played for the very firs time to just 70 people at the SiriusXM show.
And then carrying on with the one two punch of 'Too Late For Love' and 'Die Hard The Hunter'.
After that excitement the acoustic section followed as Rick got the chance for a short break on his big anniversary.
But just a few minutes after the acoustic sounds were over it was time for 'Switch 625' and The Thundergod to do his thing.
No mention of Donington by Joe but the crowd made up for this with loud applause.
38 years of being BACK as "The Thundergod" and still sounding amazing.
After 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' (PSSOM) it was sadly all over.
A epic show and a great way to end the three show run in the Lone Star State of Texas.
Joe summed it all up with this most eloquent statement.
"San Antonio! Un-f**king-believable!".
Yes, quite!.
Now two days off to recover and any of the band still feeling under the weather to rest up before the move to Minnesota and more big stadium rock shenanigans.
18 Song Setlist
An 18 song setlist was played.
'Just Like '73' and 'Comin' Under Fire' were played in this city for the first time.
San Antonio History
The first visits to San Antonio were in June 1980 on their debut American tour for two shows with both Judas Priest and Ted Nugent/Scorpions.
Two In The Round shows were played at the HemisFair Arena in 1987/1993 on the 'Hysteria' and 'Adrenalize' tours.
The Alamodome was played for the first time in August 2022 on The Stadium Tour with Motley Crue.
Def Leppard played first on that night.
Last night's show was the 17th overall performance in San Antonio.
The next Def Leppard show takes place Minneapolis, MN on 19th August.
That show will have its work cut out to beat this one though!.
