Def Leppard played a Summer Stadium Tour 2024 show last night in Boston, MA with 18 songs performed.

The show took place at the 37,731 capacity Fenway Park.

The first show in this city since August 2022.

The fourth time at this venue.

Back In The Saddle

Show #12 on The Summer Stadium Tour and the band were back in Boston.

The birthplace of Aerosmith who announced their live retirement a few days earlier.

Hot and humid weather greeted them and fortunately sunny skies for the fans in a return to outdoor baseball stadiums after the indoor show in Toronto.

An earlier start time in this city as in 2022 due to an earlier 10:30pm curfew.

The Steve Miller Band playing an extra date on the tour in place of Heart for the last of the three shows they had to miss.

Journey then followed at 6:55pm to get the crowd worked up for the main event.

An earlier start time saw Def Leppard start their closing set at 8:55pm.

No bad weather to deal with but later in the show it would become clear the band had had some issues to deal with before this show.

So much so that they almost had to cancel it.

Joe Elliott Illness Announcement

Joe had announced before 'Two Steps Behind' that he was suffering with a "upper respiratory infection" prior to the show and was treated by doctors.

The band did not want to cancel the show so they went ahead and he asked the crowd to help him during the song and for the rest of the show.

Judging from the fan videos broadcast throughout the show you would not have known he was having major issues.

The show concluded with the usual big four song ending of 'Rock Of Ages', 'Photograph', 'Hysteria' and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'.

The band and the crowd sounding just as good and loud as they had in Toronto.

Joe then thanked the crowd "from the bottom of my heart" and the rest of the band for getting him through the show.

There is now just one day off before the next show in New York.

Two days off follow that before three big shows in a row over five days in Texas.

Hopefully Joe can manage to shake off this infection before then and continue to do what, sadly, Steven Tyler is no longer able to.

Thrust Stage Change

The big Thrust stage walkways were set up slightly differently at this show with the middle set in a T-Shape with two shorts walkways either side.

The corner parts that connected them were not used meaning everyone had to walk down the middle for the acoustic section.

One possible explanation is giving seats outside the thrust a better view of the main stage.

It doesn't appear that Joe mentioned anything about the change during the show.

Journey/Cheap Trick News

In other tour related news Journey's UK/Ireland tour for October/November has today been cancelled.

They were due to play 11 arena shows including London's O2 Arena with support from fellow Summer Stadium Tour mates Cheap Trick.

Perhaps Def Leppard could schedule an arena tour here in their place?...(it's been a while!).

18 Song Setlist

An 18 song setlist was played.

'Just Like '73' and 'Comin' Under Fire' both played in this city for the first time.

Boston History

The first visit to Boston was in August 1980 at Orpheum Theater during their first ever US tour supporting Judas Priest.

Fenway Park was played for the first time with Journey in August 2018 when Def Leppard played first.

August 2022 saw then play two more shows at this venue with Motley Crue closing night one.

Last night's show was the 21st overall performance in Boston.

The next Def Leppard show takes place (hopefully) in Flushing/New York on 7th August.
