DEF LEPPARD Summer Stadium Tour 2024 In TORONTO, ON (Show Report/Setlist)
Def Leppard played a Summer Stadium Tour 2024 show last night in Toronto, ON with 18 songs performed.
The show took place at the 53,506 capacity Rogers Centre.
The first show in this city since August 2022.
The third time at this venue.
Torching Toronto
As Rick noted before the show there may have been some rain outside but the massive retractable roof was closed for the third time in a row here so it would not be a problem.
A capacity crowd of over 40,000 people packed into the huge Rogers Centre stadium next to the CN Tower in downtown Toronto.
First up at 6pm were Cheap Trick for the second of their three extra shows on the tour replacing Heart.
Followed by Journey before it was time for a "slightly older" Def Leppard to make their way back on stage in Canada.
A country that at least in the 80s and 90s was their biggest market in the world per capita.
Returning for the first time since Edmonton, AB in September 2022 on The Stadium Tour.
Would they play 19 songs again?.
Less Pyromania
No would be the answer with 'Comin' Under Fire' left out.
But still seven Pyromania songs played 41 years after their first ever Canadian shows on the Pyromania tour in 1983.
Toronto being the third city to be played after Quebec City and Montreal.
Happy Birthday Joe Elliott
Just as Joe had ended his solo version of 'Two Steps Behind' with it's crowd sing-a-long he began to introduce 'This Guitar'.
Phil stepped in to stop him mid sentence and inform the crowd of around 42,000 fans that it "was" Joe's birthday and they had just missed it.
Phil then led the crowd to sing the familiar song with a bit of encouragement.
Eventually more people joined in with Joe thanking them afterwards before they carried on with the acoustic section and then the electric ending.
And what an end to the show it was.
Fans broadcasting the last four songs in full (and much of the first part of the show).
The band in full flow and the very loud Toronto crowd now singing every word.
'Hysteria' and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' ending the show once more with Sav wearing a Toronto Blue Jays baseball shirt.
Two songs from an album that was still 36 years old as they played the final chords of PSSOM.
The next time they play them it will be 37 years old which of course it now is today.
And that show will see them back in the USA at another outdoor baseball stadium.
18 Song Setlist
An 18 song setlist was played.
'Just Like '73' was played in this city for the first time.
'Billy's Got A Gun' kept it's place again with 'Comin' Under Fire' dropped.
Toronto History
The first visit to Toronto was in June 1983 on the Pyromania tour.
The last visit here in August 2022 saw then play Rogers Centre for the second time before Motley Crue on The Stadium Tour.
They had closed the show after Journey in 2018 when it was played for the first time.
Last night's show was the 16th overall performance in Toronto, ON.
The next Def Leppard show takes place in Boston, MA on 5th August.
