DEF LEPPARD Summer Stadium Tour 2024 Cut Short In CHICAGO, IL (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played a Summer Stadium Tour 2024 show last night in Chicago, IL with 14 songs performed.

The show took place at the 41,649 capacity Wrigley Field.

The first show in this city since July 2022.

The third time at this venue.

Chicago Fire

The day of the show started out well with 30C plus temperatures and bright sunshine.

For some reason this show was already scheduled to have an earlier start at 5:30pm with The Steve Miller Band opening.

But just a couple of hours before show time and massive storm was forecast to hit the area after 8pm so the start time was brought forward to 4:30pm.

Steve Miller and band playing to an almost empty stadium in 32C heat with s shorter set.

Journey and Def Leppard also had to cut their shows down from 90 minutes to one hour 15 minutes.

Journey up next from 5:30pm to 6:45pm.

A much fuller stadium for their set and again no sign of any bad weather.

The local news reported on the early show start and warned that - "Areas in the path of these storms could potentially see destructive winds, 1 to 2 inches of rain and even possible tornadoes.".

Rick also updated fans in his usual pre-show post on IG and for the first time in a while tagged the venue location.

All Electric Set

As happened a couple of times on the 2022 Stadium Tour a shorter set meant ditching the acoustic section.

One show in 2022 also had to have the encore of ROA/Photo cut when they ended early.

The earlier start time saw Def Leppard play in a stadium in early evening sunshine once more.

Starting at around 7:20 a few minutes later than the planned 7:15pm start time.

Joe took the time before 'Foolin'' to explain the situation to the crowd and added in a reference to Mott/Down 'n' Outz.

They would be off at just about 8:30pm and well in time to miss any storms which actually hit the stadium area later after 9pm once the bands and fans were all safely on their way home.

When the band hit the stage with Rock! Rock! the crowd responded to their volume with some of their own and extremely LOUD singing.

A crowd so loud and enthusiastic Joe told them at the end they were quote "f**king amazing!".

The first five or six songs captured by a fan with a full view of the stage and the sightly darkening skies behind it.

An all electric show with 'Two Steps Behind', 'This Guitar' and 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak' all cut along with 'Switch 625'.

'Die Hard The Hunter' going right into another one two punch of Pyromania in 'Rock Of Ages' and 'Photograph'.

All seven Pyromania songs played in what is of course a celebration of that album and it's 40/41 year history.

The band and crew will have probably already noticed Detroit looks good on the 18th with cooler temps and no rain forecast.

Hopefully this will be the only disruption the tour suffers.

18 Song Setlist (?)

A 14 song setlist this time for reasons mentioned already.

4 songs cut in all.

Both 'Just Like '73' and 'Comin' Under Fire' were played in this city for the first time.

Chicago History

The first visit to Chicago took place in June 1980 at Rosemont Horizon on their very first US tour.

The 1987/1988 Hysteria tour saw them play the same venue three times for In The Round shows.

The last visit here in July 2022 was the second time at this stadium venue after playing here already with Journey in 2018.

Last night's show was the the 28th overall performance in Chicago.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Detroit, MI on 18th July.
