DEF LEPPARD Open 2025 Summer Tour In SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played a 2025 tour show last night in San Juan, Puerto Rico with 19 songs performed.

The show took place at the 19,500 capacity Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

The first show by the band in this city for ten years.

One of two show to be played this month.

Return To San Juan

After ending the 2024 tour in Salt Lake City in September under stormy skies and torrential rain the band went away for a break.

Only to return in October but without one of the band members...and only their fans seemed to notice.

And then they returned in January in Mexico with a more public appearance and a second show with John Zocco on guitar.

The news was out that a certain Irishman was absent and he shared some serious health updates.

Would he be back as the band returned to Puerto Rico for the first time in almost exactly ten years?.

Vivian Campbell Back In The Game

Yes!...and this question was answered with postings by the band and Vivian around midday local time.

Vivian captioned his Instagram post with - "Great to be back in the game.".

June comebacks now something of a habit after the June 2013 picture announcing his first comeback before the band played Hellfest in France.

And after missing four shows, the first of which was at this venue in June 2015, he would return for a second time in Atlanta, GA.

An unbroken run of shows followed until missing the two recent shows in October 2024 and January in Mexico.

But now he was fully back in the game.

Puerto Rico Trivia

Vivian made his live debut in Puerto Rico just a week after Def Leppard themselves had in February 1988.

Def Leppard playing on 19th February 1988 at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan and Vivian playing with Whitesnake at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon on 27th February 1988.

A certain "setlist" site may tell you Vivian's last show with DIO was San Juan in October 1986 but he actually left way before this in January 1986 after a show in Hawaii.

Puerto Rico Rocked

The third show at this venue got underway promptly at 8:30pm with the Pyromania themed intro and 'Rock! Rock!'.

Well it would have started at 8:30pm (as advertised by the venue) but as it turned out the opener started at 8:30pm.

A local band called LA MOÑA playing some traditional music which did not seem to go down too well with some of the locals (at least on IG).

Not exactly what they were expecting, or us who were waiting for DL.

The stage set up looking not unlike the recent ones with the large screen behind them and the same lighting rig plus two smaller video screens either side of the stage.

A stage that was set up a few days in advance as the band had time to rehearse here after the last concert played at the arena on 10th May (by Puerto Rican singer Yandel).

And also time for some of the band to enjoy the sunshine and play golf (as seen on IG).

But last night it was back to work and as it turned out a late night!.

Late Night Finish

As with most Live Updates it helps if someone broadcasts most of the show and thankfully someone did! (Muchas Gracis Jose).

After 'Rock! Rock!' was done the live broadcast began as they went into 'Rocket' and it was clear this would be a great show with a great crowd singing along to every song.

There might not have been a top tier of seating used (on each side) but the rest of the venue looked packed out with enthusiastic fans - "all the way to the back".

Joe getting a great response as he walked along the T-Shaped Thrust stage.

And very soon we got to the intro of 'Armageddon It' and Joe kept it brief with - "Please make some noise for Mr. Vivian Campbell!".

A brief acknowledgement for the returning hero from Belfast and he went right into the intro.

Sporting a hat later described by Joe as "the best hat in rock and roll".

A local fan had posted a printed setlist with suggested the same main 18 songs as played in Leon, Mexico (minus Wasted) but the band had other ideas.

After 'Just Like '73' made its debut in Puerto Rico and 'Let It Go' rocked things up and just when you thought the intro to 'Die Hard The Hunter' would start...

It didn't and they went right into 'Take What You Want' with the opening show intro from 2023 cut out.

A welcomed return for the song not played since November 2023.

And then the second surprise of 'Die Hard The Hunter' still being played after it and not being cut out.

The acoustic section followed and then the now familiar six song big electric finish to the show.

Featuring a slightly longer encore break than recent shows and at the end Joe promising to return sooner (see below for San Juan history...).

And by the time they were done it was almost 11:45pm.

A late finish and a great start to the summer shows for the band.

And more importantly Mr. Vivian Campbell back to (being healthy and...) doing what he does best on stage with Def Leppard in a packed arena.

"We're back" indeed.

19 Song Setlist

A 19 song setlist was played.

'Just Like '73', 'Take What You Want', 'Die Hard The Hunter' and 'This Guitar' were all played in San Juan for the first time.

'Take What You Want' making it's first appearance since 14th November 2023 in Melbourne, Australia at the final show of The World Tour.

Slightly unexpected after a fan posted a shot of a printed setlist with 18 songs on it before show time.

San Juan History

The first visit to San Juan took place in February 1988 on the Hysteria tour just a week after the band filmed the two Denver, CO shows which would be used for the 'In The Round-In Your Face' live video.

The first of many long waits between visits would then happen with the next show taking place in April 1997.

The last show of the Slang world tour and only outdoor show in the city.

A second long gap followed before they came back to end the YEAH! tour in November 2006 with the first show at the Coliseo De Puerto Rico.

Nine years then passed before the last visit to the same venue in June 2015 when Vivian was absent.

Last night's show was the 5th performance in San Juan.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Ocean City, MD on 17th May before a month long gap until the main summer touring starts in June.
