DEF LEPPARD End Summer Tour 2024 In SALT LAKE CITY, UT (Show Report/Setlist)
Def Leppard played a Summer Tour 2024 show last night in Salt Lake City, UT with 18 songs performed.
The show took place at the 25,000 capacity Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.
The first show in this city since June 2017.
The tenth time and tenth show in a row at this venue.
A run dating back to August 2006 on the YEAH! tour.
Going Out With A Bang!
The Summer Stadium Tour 2024 may have ended in Denver, Colorado but that wasn't quite the end of the 2024 touring.
After a couple of arena shows mixed in with the stadium fun it was time to return to a US amphitheatre venue for the first time since ending the 2019 tour in Sacramento, CA.
And returning to a venue which saw most of the audio used for the 'Mirrorball (Live & More)' recorded here in 2009 along with the start of the 2012 'Rock Of Ages' tour.
A tenth visit to the newly renamed Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.
As with Portland and Spokane the band would have been back in this city in October 2020 on the cancelled '20/20 Vision' tour with ZZ Top.
A show was scheduled for 15th October 2020 at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
So once again like the poster said a return here after seven years and the actual last show of the 2024 tour.
However things didn't quite go according to plan!.
DJ Opener
All seemed well at first with roadie photos and fan selfies showing sunshine and mostly blue if cloudy skies.
A local Salt Lake City based DJ called Jake Stone opened the show at 7:30pm (a set that included AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck') and then s "Thundergod" hinted at trouble in the area.
Pyromania/Storm Delay
A certain Rick Allen posted a nice photo showing the venue bathed in sunshine and then later in his usual pre-show video the sky had darkened and he shared this news:
"So here we are last show. There's an interesting lighting storm going off behind me, which is a little concerning. But out with a bang as they say!.".
Just as it seemed the show would start on time, five minutes before in fact, news of a "Severe Weather Delay" from the venue itself about 20 minutes or so after Rick's video:
"Hey Def Leppard Fans! We are evacuating the venue due to lightning. Please exit the venue & make your way to your vehicles. If you used rideshare, please shelter in the venue bathrooms & other severe weather shelter areas. We will notify you when it is safe to re-enter the venue."
"Lightning in the area."
"Due to lightning within 3 miles of the venue, we are evacuating. Please exit the venue & head to your vehicles."
"Please stay tuned to the venue's social networks for updates."
An unwanted flashback to the first 10 or so shows of The Stadium Tour 2022.
And then suddenly at 9:35pm (after promising news at 9:30pm) - Good News. The gates were reopened and fans allowed back in.
The venue shared that the show would likely begin at 10:15pm.
Late Start-Late Finish
The Pyro Clock began again (or possibly for the first time) at about 10pm but that was not clear to those of us watching from far away.
Delays in online posts meant we did not see the start of the show until 'Rocket' kicked in and the show had started at around 10:15-10:20pm.
But then lots of video soon followed although not as much as Portland/Seattle sadly.
The wind was howling around the open air venue and it rained but that did not stop the show from going on.
Joe acknowledged and apologised for the late start before 'Foolin'' saying it was out of their hands.
And said that everyone would have a "great time".
And judging from the videos and the fan posts during and after the show they did!.
'Billy's Got A Gun' was the opening song choice during the 'Pyromania' section.
Actual Tour End In Salt Lake City
At least two fans broadcast 'PSSOM' which this time signalled not just the and of this momentous show but also of the whole tour.
The first time the band have effectively ended a tour twice after the "Stadium" end in Denver.
Joe informed the crowd at the end that this was a "f***ing amazing way" to end the tour.
Now we wait to see if they do play that festival date in late November and also wait for news of 2025 touring/new music.
Until next time. And there will be a next time!.
18 Song Setlist - (Updated)
An 18 song setlist was played - (as it seemed last night when the show was on only Billy was played and no 'Under Fire'.
'Just Like '73' was played in this city for the first time.
Salt Lake City History
The first visit to Salt Lake City took place in October 1981 with Blackfoot at the Salt Palace during the High 'n' Dry tour.
The August 2009 show at this at USANA Amphitheatre was recorded and made up most of the 2011 'Mirrorball (Live & More)' album.
The last show here and at this venue was in June 2017 on the Summer Tour 2017 which was the ninth show in a row at the venue.
Last night's show was the 19th overall performance in Salt Lake City.
The next Def Leppard show takes place in Immokalee, FL on 23rd November..."probably".
