Sydney, NSW - Fan Reviews
Fan Review - By Brendan
For days before this concert i was like an excited little kid with so much nervous anxiety about finally seeing Def Leppard again in my hometown Sydney. The first time I saw them in Sydney I was 16 - now I'm 32 so I literally had to wait half a lifetime but it was all so worth it!!!
Yesterday was such a beautiful afternoon in Sydney and on my way to Acer Arena, my friend who had already arrived sent me a text message to perfectly set the scene "The sun is shining over Def Leppard Arena!". We were ready to rock!!!
I missed the Galvatrons but arrived at my front row seat with a few minutes to spare before Cheap Trick began their set. They played really well although the crowd seemed to lack enthusiasm for most of the set until an amazing rendition of 'The Flame'. Rick in particular was very interactive with the crowd and seemed a little disappointed with the energy level - I tried to make up for it as much as i could and he seemed appreciative hehehe. I was stoked they played 'voices' and they pumped out all the classics 'dream police', 'if you want my love' and 'i want you to want me'. About a zillion guitar pics were thrown out in the last few songs which very much pleased the crowd (myself included). There was no encore and I think they may have cut their set a song short due to the voice issues that have been talked about at past gigs.
So there I was, nestled in between the stage and the15-20 metre catlwalk, front and centre waiting for my favourite band to hit the stage for the first time here since 1992. I didn't have to wait long until the very cool video intro kicked in accompanied by an uproarious response from the near sell out (and very young might I add) crowd who were obviously there for Def Leppard!!! BOOM straight into 'Rocket' and the night was off. From the outset the guys were on fire. It was awesome to see the crowd so into it and the band fed off this big time. I couldn't believe how much the guys were smiling and interacting with the crowd. Apart from Rick who was obviously behind the drums I got constant high 5's from all the band during the gig!!! Early on in the piece they played 'Too Late For Love' which wasn't on the written set list (i have a copy!!!) and was awesome to hear. Really wanted to hear 'Go' but I should get the chance at the other NSW gigs ;-)
They flawlessly tore through the set (after some early low in the mix Viv guitar) and I was particulary impressed with the mini acoustic set of 'Two Steps Behind' and 'Bringin' on the Heartbreak' which was all performed on the catwalk. The new tunes of 'C'mon C'mon' and 'Nine Lives' were well received. Phil played right up to me during my favourite guitar solo in 'Photograph' (it was f*cking unbelievable - made my night) and they played the 'remix' intro of Sugar which was very sweet (boom tis!).
I enjoyed WLAHC but it was maybe a little 'balladish' for an encore. Everyone went berserk for Let's Get Rocked.
So there it was, the long wait was finally over. During the concert Joe kept saying it had been waaaaay too long between gigs (almost apologizing) but guaranteed they would be back soon and if the crowd response was anything to go by they will be!!!
A truly amazing night. Bring on Newcastle!!!

Hey guys well what can i say....... what a fuking night, actually apart from my son being born it was the greatest night of my life. 16 years is to god damn long but boy was it worth the wait.
As you can see it was the same set as Melbourne but hey who cares you could go on for days what songs u wanna see live now couldn't you. Mr Elliot was on absolute fire tonight man i haven't heard the guy sing like that in a long time, also the whole band looked like they where having a ball onstage which was very cool. Phil was jaw dropping on the guitar man its one thing watching on youtube and bootlegs but man being there holy shit.
Rick Allen was of course amazing as usual and Viv and Rick where killer as well. Rocket then straight into Animal is such a good way to start the show it had everyone pumped from the first note. There's only one lil thing to pick wich was mr sound guy obviously deaf somewhere cause if he thought vivs guitar was up loud enough well jeez i must be completely deaf.... All in all though a night I'll never forget thanks Def Leppard we wont forget u but if u leave it for another 16 years I'm going to chuck a major hissy fit.
