It was opened in April 1950 as Milwaukee Arena.

It was renovated in 1998 and 2016 and named as MECCA Arena from 1974 to 1995.

The venue was then called Wisconsin Center Arena from 1995 to 2000 and then the U.S. Cellular Center until 2014 when it got its current name of UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena.
