This venue featured the first retractable roof in a sports venue in the world. Between 1999 and 2010 it was renamed as Mellon Arena due to its distinctive dome shaped roof.
The venue was located near the Downtown area of the city and just south of the Allegheny River.
It was opened in September 1961.
The venue was closed down in June 2010 and later replaced by the nearby PPG Paints Arena.
