Blackfoot/Def Leppard @ Memorial Auditorium By Sacramento Bee
Def Leppard is guitarists Steve Clark and Pete Willis, drummer Rick Allen and bassist Rick Savage (the best thing about this band), all of whom sing backup to energetic lead vocalist Joe Elliott.
They effect an androgynous, unisex look, and in performance their 10-song, 50-minute opening set consisted of a steady, deafening, growl-textured hum from which the drumbeats emerged like a faint pulse.
It was at once monorhythmic, mono-textural and monotonic, which is only a few thousand decibels away from monotonous.
As music, their work is right in there with the best of the material you'd find in a sewage-treatment plant.
