VIVIAN CAMPBELL Says DEF LEPPARD Have 17/18 Songs For New Album/2025 Tour

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell gave an update on the next studio album during a recent radio interview with audio available.

The band returned to live action last month.

They also revealed they had done recording work in Sn Juan, Puerto Rico.

Now Vivian has shared more which suggests significant progress is being made on the next album.

As mentioned Vivian was recently interviewed by Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM radio and he gave some very positive health news.

As well as detailing his health struggles, and his good news, Vivian also talked about the status of the next studio album, Last In Line and his love of rallying.

Vivian says the band have 17/18 news songs "in development" and "more to come".

2026 Release?

Eddie Trunk also added that Phil had told him in Ocean City that the album maybe be ready by the end of 2005/early 2026.

Vivian adding it could be out "within the year".

This suggests the band will release the album in 2026 and tour for it ahead of the already announced (by Joe) plans for a 2027 'Hysteria 40th Anniversary' box set.

And, you would think, a 50th anniversary/Hysteria 40th world tour and probably a lot of other audio/visual celebrations of the band's major anniversary.

So having an album out well ahead of this makes sense.

Later in the interview Vivian says Last In Line might release a few songs at a time rather than a full new album.

If Def Leppard copy this idea there might be at least a single out before the end of 2025 and perhaps coinciding with the Radio 2 show in England in September.

The 2025 tour was also discussed with Vivian commenting that "it’s a strange tour" and that the band are "trying to stay out of the major markets" right now.

Possibly to create demand for a larger tour around a new album in 2026.

We shall see.

Eddie:

I’ve seen more Def Leppard shirts than ever—not just at concerts, but everywhere.

Vivian:

Absolutely.

We take the work seriously: sober, professional, show up fit, not phoning it in.

We’ve gotten really good at it.

We’re working on new music, likely a new album within the year.

The industry isn’t what it used to be, but writing and recording keeps us energized.

It prevents us from becoming just a nostalgia act.

We’re unique in our generation in maintaining that bond—sharing rooms, communicating, no silos.

Joe said 33 years ago, his ambition was to make Leppard an iconic British band—like The Who, The Stones, or Queen.

That goal hasn’t changed.

Eddie:

With back-to-back diamond records, that history is cemented.

But it’s cool you’re still building on it.

Vivian:

Writing new music matters, even if it doesn’t hit big.

It’s vital as songwriters and for the band’s identity.

Eddie:

Eddie: I loved "’73".

Killer single.

2026 Release?

Eddie:

Phil told me progress on the new record is good—possibly end of this year or early next?

Vivian:

Could be.

We’ve got around 17 to 18 songs in development—and a few more coming.

We’ll finish it when it’s right.

I think of Hysteria—"Pour Some Sugar On Me" was the last song written for that album, but became the hit.

We’re giving it the same patience now.

2025 Tour Schedule

Eddie:

Lots of tour dates coming up—starting at Summerfest in Milwaukee on the 19th, followed by casino and showcase shows, including Canada.

There’s a good amount of shows out there this summer—kind of just throwing a dart and going around different spots, right?

Vivian:

Yeah, it’s a strange tour.

It’s a mixed bag of, like you say, different venues—smaller amphitheaters, casinos, festivals, and places you’ve never heard of.

But I know it’ll be great.

I mean, I know the audiences will be great, and we’ll have a good time.

We’re just trying to stay out of the major markets for a while.
