RICK ALLEN On DEF LEPPARD's 2025 Tour/Update On VIVIAN CAMPBELLL's Health

Def Leppard 2025. Def Leppard 2025/Chele Drappel

Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen has been interviewed on US radio and gave an update on the 2025 tour and Vivian Campbell.

The 2025 tour starts properly in June after two more one off shows in May.

The first of these is in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 15th May.

Rick appeared on the Eddie Trunk Trunk Nation show on SiriusXM on 17th April.

Rick was promoting the 2nd Annual Raven Drum Foundation Benefit show which takes place tomorrow.

The event is in New York on 25th April at The Cutting Room venue and will see Rick performing alongside his wife Lauren Monroe and her band plus special guests.

During their 44 minute chat Rick talked about the Raven Drum show, working in his home studio/upcoming outside projects, his drum kit/playing technique, other drummers, first responders, his 1984 accident, Peter Criss, attending a 1980 KISS show, getting attacked in Florida in March 2023/ongoing issues, the Def Leppard 2025 tour, an update on Vivian's health and the Stand By Me single.

2025 Tour Setlist/Theme?

Rick was asked about the upcoming 2025 Def Leppard tour and suggested it will be a regular greatest his style setlist.

The Pyromania theme was still in place for the two shows in October 2024 and January 2025 but may be changed up starting from next month.

Vivian Campbell's Health

Rick gave an update on Vivian's health and said he is doing "really good" and "feeling great".

Positive news but he was not able to confirm whether he will be back for the shows in May just yet.

2023 Florida Attack/Ongoing Issues

Rick also spoke about the attack suffered in March 2023 in Florida.

He explained the reasons why he was not so visible since then at public events like the Monsters Of Rock cruises and his own art shows and the after effects he is still dealing with.

This interview took place on 17th April live on SiriusXM for listeners in the USA but is now available on the podcast edition worldwide.

Rick Allen/Trunk Nation - April 2025 Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Def Leppard 2025 Tour

Eddie Trunk:

Well, the last thing — Leppard.

Because, you know, you guys — and I’ve said this many times — I don’t think any band from the '80s has worked harder to rebuild and get to this level that you’ve ascended to again than Def Leppard.

I mean, the amount of work that you guys have put in over the last 20 years or so — consistent playing, the quality of the shows, the level of touring — has just been unbelievable.

And that continues — because there’s a bunch of stuff announced, including something I’m going to be hosting for the first time.

I look forward to seeing you next month in Ocean City, Maryland — Boardwalk Rock.

That’s a brand-new one.

Originally, Mötley Crüe was supposed to be on that one with you, but unfortunately they pulled off.

It’s now going to be Alice in Chains, and that’s coming up in Ocean City, Maryland.

But there’s a ton of dates — and everybody can see those, of course, at DefLeppard.com.

On the upcoming dates that Leppard are doing, are these focused on any certain theme, Rick?

Or is it just going to be a mix of the greatest hits?

It’s not focusing on any particular album, right?

Rick Allen:

It’s not necessarily focusing on any particular record — even though we are always working on new music.

But I think because the nature of the tour is really centered around festival settings, it’s good to play music that people really want to hear.

So I think it’s kind of cool that we’re doing this.

We do have some shows that are ours — like amphitheater shows — that are specifically Def Leppard shows.

But most of the shows are festivals.

So I think — just come out there guns blazing and show people what we can do, you know?

Vivian Campbell Health Update

Eddie Trunk:

Yeah.

And again, everybody can see all the dates and the variety of different dates on the band’s website.

I know Viv has been going through some stuff lately...

I know he actually missed a couple of shows.

Can you give us any update on his status?

Is he going to be able to join you for these dates, from what you hear?

Rick Allen:

He's doing really good.

And the latest news is, you know, he's feeling great.

So I'm just hoping that Vivian can get back out with us as soon as possible.

And again, just like my situation way back in the day, I think what it is — we just need to give Viv time to figure things out in his own time.

I think that's the most important thing.

We don't want to put any kind of pressure on Vivian.

We never would, you know?

It's about his comfort level.

And if he can be — you know — if he can be out there with us, then we're just going to love that.

Eddie Trunk:

Yeah.

You know, I'm in touch with Viv, and it's amazing to me — what really blows my mind about what he's going through — and what people sometimes forget...

Because he has such a great demeanour.

Viv has been battling cancer for a long time — leukemia.

And he's been through just an unbelievable amount of treatments and different things — even experimental ones.

He's pretty open about it, so I'm not saying anything people don't know.

But what blows my mind about him, Rick, is he's always — anytime I talk to him about it — no matter how harrowing it sounds, he's always got a smile on his face.

He's like, "It's all right, man. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it."

I mean, that attitude he has — I think it's remarkable.

Rick Allen:

I think that’s the thing that gets him through it.

And it amazes me too, you know, that he’s able to rise above.

And, you know, that inspires me.

That inspires me to want to go out there — the fact that I have bandmates that are strong, you know?

They’ve got incredible character.

So I'm just really happy that Viv’s on the up and up.

And I’m looking forward — I haven’t seen him in quite a while — so I’m really looking forward to seeing him and just supporting him along his journey.

2023 Florida Attack/Ongoing Issues

Eddie Trunk:

Yeah, no doubt.

Hey, I wanted to also ask you about your artwork — because, you know, I just came off the Monsters of Rock Cruise about a month ago.

And we always see you on there — you didn’t make this one.

But are you still doing the art?

Rick Allen:

I am.

I’ve been going through some challenging times, you know — kind of related to what happened in Florida.

That whole thing is kind of ongoing... you know, when I got beaten up outside.

Eddie Trunk:

Oh, yes.

Rick Allen:

So I've been trying to deal with that the best I can.

And really, I just needed to take a break from some of the side projects I was busy with, just so I could spend more time at home.

So that’s been a real challenge for me.

Hopefully, I can put it all behind me and kind of get back to as normal as I could possibly be, given the circumstances.

But that was very traumatic for me.

And yeah — it’s been difficult.

But hopefully, I can put it behind me soon.

Eddie Trunk:

Yeah, I completely understand that.

Because obviously you’re out in a public setting — and when you do these things, you’re out there publicly, showing your art.

And I could completely understand how that would take some time to get past.

So I hope we get you back out there soon and see you doing that kind of stuff.

But yeah, you should absolutely take all the time you need to feel good about it when you do.

And again, I'm very sorry that happened to you.

I actually forgot about that for a minute — that was an awful story.

Rick Allen:

No, I know.

And I’m glad you asked about that.

I did go out — I did a cruise — and I kind of realized I was finding it difficult to be around a lot of people like that.

So I decided, “You know what, Rick, don’t try and bite off more than you can chew.”

Just deal with this.

Deal with what’s in front of you.

Spend as much time as you need to at home.

And I’m just hoping, as I say, that I can put it behind me.

But I really do appreciate you asking me about that.

I’d love to get back to doing some of my side projects — particularly the art.

And let’s hope I can, soon.
