The Joe Elliott Show - 7th June 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show.

We're right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are you?

Oh, it's a pleasure — great to be with you!

You've got one hour, one little hour, so let's get cracking, shall we?

Here we are, fired up on all six, as it happens.

This is Lone Star.

Lone Star

Absolutely love that album.

In fact, absolutely love that band.

I saw them twice, with both singers actually.

I saw them in '76 with Kenny Driscoll, and then I saw them headlining the Sheffield City Hall with the wonderful John Sloman on lead vocals.

And there, from the second album — the only one that featured John Sloman — the album Firing On All Six, that is Lone Star.

The song we heard: "All Of Us To All Of You."

California Breed

Now, it's a very well-known fact within the music industry that the current go-to producer is a young guy called Andrew Watt.

Andrew Watt has produced the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John,

The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop, Eddie Vedder.

I believe he's working with Pearl Jam, so he's very, very sought after in the music industry.

But where did he get his start from?

Well, about 12 years ago, I was in California, and I went for dinner with Glenn Hughes, who told me he just put this band together with his fantastic new guitar player — and Jason Bonham.

That band were California Breed, and I say "were" because they only made the one album.

But I do believe, because Jason was on the drums, this was a precursor for the Black Country Communion project.

Thought you might like to check out the band.

Here from their solitary album is California Breed.

And before that, California Breed featuring Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals,

Jason Bonham on drums, and some wonderful guitar from Andrew Watt.

From their solitary album in 2014, we heard "Sweet Tea."

Black Sabbath

A couple of pretty sweet tunes for you there, back to back.

We just heard Black Sabbath, who next month are getting back together for one final time in their birth town of Birmingham.

Should be a hell of a day.

We just heard them there from the album Master of Reality with "Sweet Leaf",

Thin Lizzy

Now, if you're a fan of Thin Lizzy, you might find this interesting.

Very interesting.

And before that we heard Thin Lizzy from the recently released box set 1976, which featured both Jailbreak and Johnny The Fox in brand new formats — different mixes, even different performances, as we just heard there.

Who knew there was ever originally a saxophone on the song "Running Back"?

Crosby Stills And Nash

I absolutely adore that song from their debut album back in 1969, and featuring some astonishing lap steel guitar playing by a gentleman called Jerry Donahue.

That is Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young with "Marrakesh Express".

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up: we're going for it with Yes.

Yes

And before that, we heard Yes from that wonderful album — well, in fact, we heard the title track from that wonderful album — "Going For The One."

The Who

Well, from what I've read, that is the song that brought about the sad departure of Zak Starkey from The Who.

He was kind of fired, and then he was rehired, and then he was fired again.

So, I don't know what's going on.

Strange story about Zak Starkey:

When Def Leppard were recording On Through The Night at what was Ringo Starr's house — which also used to belong to John Lennon — in fact, it's the house where the Imagine video was shot.

We were living in that house for three weeks, recording our debut album, and there was an annex house just down the hill within the grounds.

An 11-year-old Zak Starkey was learning to play the drums there every day because we could hear him through the window.

But that is The Who, taken from the album Who's Next, with the song "The Song Is Over" — ironically.

Killing Joke

Well, as we're heading into the nighttime, let's enjoy it with a bit of Killing Joke, shall we?

And before that — wonderful stuff from Killing Joke.

The album is Night Time.

The song that we heard: "Love Like Blood."

David Bowie

Some artists do cover albums.

Some artists re-record some of their early material to give it the benefit of the doubt, if you like.

Some artists do both.

David Bowie is one such artist.

He did a covers album called Pin Ups in 1973, and then he re-recorded some of his early '60s music.

But the record company, strangely enough, refused to release it.

It did eventually come out after his passing.

The album is Toy.

The song that we just heard: "Let Me Sleep Beside You."

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this week.

It's been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please, please don’t go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this:

1 minute and 58 seconds of pure joy, from their debut album back in 1977 — this is The Clash with "White Riot."

Until next week — see ya!.
