Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Can I just take this opportunity to wish all the listeners an absolutely fantastic 2024. I hope it's as good as it can possibly be. Also tonight, extra special celebration because this is my 700th show for Planet Rock. Now who would have thought that way back in 2010 when they asked me to do six shows to promote the first Down 'n' Outz album."

"Here I am 14 years later still doing it and still having just as much fun if not more. We've got 60 minutes of some really great music lined up for you tonight. We're going to start off with The Stranglers."

The Stranglers

"Well what a very perky way to get the show started off tonight. That is The Stranglers from an album called Black And White, the song we heard Tank."

Thin Lizzy

"I just had to play something from Thin Lizzy tonight because just this Thursday gone. It was 38 years since Phil Lynnott had passed away. Unbelievable really. He's still with us obviously because of the incredible legacy he left behind and I thought I'd play something just a little bit different this week."

"So instead of Jailbreak, Boys Are Back In Town etc. We've gone really deep back to the 50th anniversary edition of the album Vagabonds Of The Western World. The song that we heard Sitamoia. Not easy to pronounce, thanks Phil."

Uriah Heap

"So from black and white to full on technicolor sound. This is Uriah Heap."

"And before that we heard Uriah Heap. If you're a Uriah Heap fan you may notice the intro was a little bit different to the way that we were used to it from 1972 onwards until the deluxe version was released and they put the alternative version out which they put the front back on which they obviously clipped off back in 72 thinking that it was superfluous. I actually think it's pretty damn cool. As I said Uriah Heap from the album Magicians Birthday. The song we heard Sweet Lorraine."

Mott The Hoople

"So from one 50th anniversary release to another this box set is getting rave reviews all over the world. This is Mott The Hoople."

"And before that we heard Ready For Love stroke After Lights by Mott The Hoople from their 1972 album All The Young Dudes which just got a fantastically lavish re-release. Amazing liner notes from Campbell Divine who has been Ian Hunter Mott The Hoople's biographer for many many years. It's worth it for the book alone never mind all the bonus tracks. And what we just heard wow Mick Ralphs is playing on After Lights is absolutely stunning and of course Ready For Love he would go on to record a year later with Bad Company."

Queen

"They're the two together in 1974 and for the latter of those two bands the only time that they were ever an opening act. We just heard Queen from the 1975 album A Night At The Opera with the wonderful I'm In Love With My Car."

"You are listening to my 700th show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock coming up as promised a couple of weeks ago some brand new Peter Gabriel."

Peter Gabriel

"And before that as promised a couple of weeks ago some brand new Peter Gabriel I believe the album is just called I/O as it is written on the sleeve small I forward stroke O. Well at least it's not called Peter Gabriel like the first three albums were wonderful bit of work though it's from the bright side version there's two mixes bright side and dark side I think it's called and the song that we just heard and still."

Paul McCartney

"Well I don't know about you but music I find very emotional and there's few songs out there that can just make me burst into tears. That one comes in the top five probably it's a fantastic bit of work from Paul McCartney from his 2007 album Chaos And Creation In The Backyard the song is Jenny Wren."

Flaming Lips

"Now when it comes to the creation of a great rock song there's obvious ingredients big drums big guitars big vocals but something that often gets overlooked that can really take a song completely over the edge are the hand claps. Think Joan Jett And The Blackhearts I love rock and roll or the Daddy of them all We Will Rock You by Queen. Now here's a couple of songs where the hand claps are part of the main ingredient and we're going to start off with the Flaming Lips."

"And before that not so big the hand claps not so big but there's still very important it is the Flaming Lips with a song well whichever your preferences it's either called The W A N D or just simply The Wand."

The Pretty Wreckless

"Gloriously led by Taylor Momson who's definitely not Cindy Lou who anymore is she oh my goodness no that is The Pretty Reckless from an album called going to hell the song heaven knows with massive hand claps."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week's been a real pleasure as always 700 shows down who can believe it and I hope to be doing it for 700 more. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time so until then let's all run with the pack shall we this is Bad Company and Sweet Little Sister. Till next week see ya."
