Show Intro
"Welcome my fellow music lovers once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Sixty minutes, one solid hour of what I consider to be wonderful rock music. Starting off with this fantastic bit of work from one of my favourite albums from last year. This is Mike Campbell And The Dirty Knobs."
Mike Campbell And The Dirty Knobs
"Fantastic stuff. What a great album this is. It's very very Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers because Mike Campbell was a big part of that particular band. And their voices are not dissimilar either. The album is called External Combustion. The song we just heard Wicked Mind."
Peter Gabriel
"Over the last seven days or so a few friends of mine. We've been emailing each other the kind of relevance and co-incidence of that phrase six degrees from Kevin Bacon. Apparently we can all work our way back to Kevin if we try hard enough. Here's an example of a very similar situation that is so simplistic it's ridiculous. This is Peter Gabriel."
"And before that the guy that fronted the band when they made that album. it is Peter Gabriel from his eponymously titled debut album. One of many albums called Peter Gabriel but that's the first one. A very exciting piece of work called Modern Love."
Genesis
"Not so much six degrees from Kevin Bacon. More one degree from Genesis. For that is them that we just heard. From the album Selling England By The Pound. Their first ever hit single I Know What I Like In Your Wardrobe."
Pat Travers
"Right making some very cool magic for you right now. This is Pat Travers."
"And before that Pat Travers who we also toured with a year previous to Ozzy in 1980. Did about two weeks down the west coast of America. There from his second album which I saw him play live many times back in Sheffield. The album is Makin' Magic. The song we heard You Don't Love Me."
Ozzy Osbourne
"Yes very sad to read this week as I'm sure some of you have that Ozzy Osbourne has decided that he's no longer physically capable of touring any more. And that long awaited tour of his that's been postponed so many times has finally been cancelled for good. I guess this is something that happens to us all at the end of the day. And it's just really sad because it's so in your face these days with Internet. The news the way it breaks, everybody in the whole world knows your business. And Ozzy I hope has a fantastic retirement from live work though he did kind of hint that he might be able to do something along the lines of a residency, because he said he can perform, he just doesn't wanna do the travel. Well that's where Las Vegas comes in. So I guess watch this space."
"But Ozzy if you're listening enjoy your time rather than worrying about trying to get back out there. You made a fantastic album last year Patient Number 9. We just heard a song from it. It's one of the best things he ever did. We toured with Ozzy in 1981 and he and Sharon were so good to us. We were blessed to be on the same tour with Randy Rhodes as well. It was 1981. What a fantastic team they had and what a great time we had. And God Bless you Ozzy Osbourne. As I said there from the album Patient Number 9 we just heard One Of Those Days."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Ozzy may have just retired but sadly after the break sadly a couple more people who've checked out for good."
Television
"But still that grim reaper just doesn't take the hint does he and go away. Just go on holiday and get lost - because the song we heard before that well what can I say it's Television. As you know I've been raving about them for the last few weeks. How I love their debut album when it came out in 1977/1978 I think it was. The album Marquee Moon. And it took me 40 years almost to catch up with the second and third album. They've been going into mass rotation for me for the last few weeks. And then lo and behold earlier this week Tom Verlaine passes away at the age of 74. It's just getting to the point now where I can't say it every week but I am doing. When does it ever end?. And the truth is it probably won't because classic rock being what it is we're not getting any younger are we. So as I say rest in peace to Floyd Sneed and Tom Verlaine from Television. Who we just heard with the title track of their wonderful debut album Marquee Moon."
Three Dog Night
"A song once covered by the Stereophonics featuring the legend that is Sir Tom Jones. But that's the original version there from a band called Three Dog Night. A massive hit from about 53 years ago. I think it was round about 1970. The song is Mama Told Me Not To Come. I play that because sadly this week the drummer for Three Dog Night Mr. Floyd Sneed passed away at the grand old age of 80 fair enough."
Sparks
"Right let's cheer ourselves up a little bit shall we with a duo who've been going for well over 50 years now. With various different line ups in their band. They make fantastic music. they've just announced their latest British tour. And I can't wait to see them. They're doing two nights at the Royal Albert Hall. I give you Sparks."
"And before that we heard Sparks who have just announced their latest British tour. Includes two nights at the Royal Albert Hall. Love to see them if I get a chance. But we just heard them there from the album Indiscreet. With a great song called How Are You Getting Home?."
Mott The Hoople
"Now there's a song you don't hear much on the radio because when Mott The Hoople do get played. For that is them that we just heard. It's usually things like All The Young Dudes, All The Way From Memphis, Roll Away The Stone. Not so much Saturday Gigs or Golden Age Of Rock And Roll. Or the song that we just heard. Which was a standalone single for them back in 1974. A wonderful bit of work called Foxy Foxy."
Show Outro
"And that my dear friends is about it for this particular show. It has been a pleasure as it always is. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time..
"So until then let's go out with this one. It's the resurrected version of the Destroyer album. Originally released in 1976. But remixed in 2012. This is KISS and Shout It Out Loud. Until next week see ya!."
