Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the — yes, you know where — the wonderful Planet Rock.

This week, it is coming to you all the way from Virginia Beach, where we're preparing for our last show of this particular leg of the U.S. tour, just before we head back to Blighty for that one-off gig in Chelmsford next weekend.

Looking forward to that immensely. But until then, we have business to take care of.

Tonight, for the next 60 minutes or so, we're going to be playing some, in my humble opinion, amazing music, starting off with this beauty from... Well, you guys and girls of a certain age — you tell me who this is.

John Fogerty

Well, you folks of a certain age — did you say Creedence Clearwater Revival? Yep... well, you'd be wrong! Because it's actually not Creedence.

It is a brand new recording of an old Creedence song by their former leader, Mr. John Fogerty, who has re-recorded 20 classic Creedence songs for an album called Legacy.

Very similar to what Taylor Swift has been doing for the last few years, and indeed, Def Leppard did three or four songs back about 15 years ago as well.

And it does sound incredibly like the original. There’s a slight difference if you're playing back-to-back, but to the untrained ear — if you like — you can get away with it.

And he's done it because it took — must have been 30, 40 years — in courts of law, lawyers, and God knows how many millions of dollars to try and get the rights back to his original recordings.

But I do think he has. And I think just out of spite, he's gone in and re-recorded them and done an amazing job.

So there we have it — John Fogerty, the album is Legacy, and what we heard, of course, was "Up Around the Bend."

Rose Tattoo

Right then. Let's go join those blood brothers in Australia. This is Rose Tattoo.

And before that, we heard Rose Tattoo from a wonderful album called Blood Brothers, with a song that's got some of the greatest slide guitar that I've ever heard. The song is "Once in a Lifetime."

Clutch

Now sometime back in the summer of 2023, Def Leppard were doing a festival somewhere in Europe.

And as we were getting ready to go on in our little compound, the band that was on stage were very interesting.

We were looking at each other going, "Who is this? This is great!"

And I looked up on the sheet — who was on at this time of day? And it was this band called Clutch, who I'd heard of, but I wasn't really that familiar with their music.

But I became a big fan that day, because just listening from backstage, they sounded absolutely fantastic.

And I love that song that we just heard. It's got that madness of a crazy world of Arthur Brown.

It is "Earth Rocker."

Cheap Trick

Right — get your lugholes around this. Absolutely brand spanking new Cheap Trick.

And before that, we heard brand new Cheap Trick. The album is out in November. It's called All Washed Up. And wait till you see the sleeve — it is absolutely fantastic.

The song we just heard: "Twelve Gates."

Pugwash

No doubt, a band that you're not overly familiar with, but what a talent the leader of said band is.

His name is Tommy Walsh. The band are Pugwash, and from an album called Jollity, we just heard "Black Dog."

No, not that "Black Dog" — this is a different one.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the mighty Planet Rock, coming to you this week all the way from Virginia Beach in the USA.

Coming up, we're going to be welcoming some royalty with Wishbone Ash.

Wishbone Ash

We just heard their "Sister Moonshine," and before that, Wishbone Ash from that wonderful album that is Argus, with "The King Will Come."

Supertramp

I saw that tour in 1975. They had just released the album Crisis? What Crisis?, but they were pretty much playing the whole of Crime of the Century, which had been a massive success the previous year.

They are Supertramp.

U2

Hand on heart, I can't believe that this song is 30 years old.

This is U2, from 1995, the song is "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me." I took it from The Best Of, because I think that’s pretty much all it was ever on — other than the original soundtrack to a Batman movie.

Roxy Music

And before that, when they really were like aliens that had come down from another planet to join David Bowie in their takeover of British radio — that is Roxy Music, taken from the album For Your Pleasure, with "Do the Strand."

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends — all the way from Virginia Beach, in Virginia, in the USA — is about it for this particular week.

I shall be back with you next week from… let me see — it’ll be the day before the gig in Chelmsford.

Yes! Wow. I will be back in Blighty, and I’ve not been there for a while, so looking forward to it very much.

Hope you can join us for that particular day. If not, just join me for the show next week, which will be at exactly the same time on exactly the same channel.

So until then, I shall leave you with this — from an album called Showbiz Kids, this is Steely Dan with "Reelin' in the Years."

Till next week - See ya!.
