Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome, one and all, to the Joe Elliott Show once again right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is cold out there, I hope you're all nicely wrapped up warm with your favourite glass of tipple in one hand. And whatever you like in the other!, we have 60 minutes of what I like to think of as fantastic music lined up for you tonight. We're going to start the show off with some brand new music from a band that opened for Def Leppard this summer in Sheffield and in Blackpool. This is VIVAS."
VIVAS
"VIVA'S, VEE-VAS, I'm not really sure of the pronunciation to be quite honest, I never really asked Tyler, who was part of the Savage Clan, how to pronounce his band's name. But there you go, it's brand new. As I said, they opened for us in Blackpool and Bramall Lane in Sheffield this summer. It's their brand new single. It is called Vinyl Girl."
Ace Frehley
"And here's some more new music for you, and we haven't heard from this guy for a while, so let's see what he's up to. This is Ace Frehley."
"And before that, brand new Ace Frehley, co-written and produced by Steve Brown, who has been an occasional stand-in for Def Leppard when Vivian hasn't been well enough to perform. And it's the first I've heard in Ace for a long time, and I think this is a really good song. Off his upcoming album, 10,000 Volts."
Extreme
"Just out on the road in the UK, a friend of mine just went to see them in Newcastle City Hall and she said that they were absolutely fantastic. Great to see them back out there again. That is Extreme from that album that is Pornograffiti with Get The Funk Out."
Fish
"Right then, time for us all to go walking on eggshells. This is Fish."
"And before that we heard Fish, and I remember when this album came out, I had massive problems pronouncing it and it's not got any easier. I believe the album is called Weltschmerz, forgive me Fish, I'm really sorry. And the song we heard, a wonderful bit of work called Walking on Eggshells."
Def Leppard
"As we all know, this is not a request show, but I am playing this for somebody that I know who's recently recovered from a pretty life-changing disease and celebrating a birthday, which is fantastic. And it was requested, so I'm playing it. This is from the album Drastic Symphonies, which Def Leppard released earlier this year, the kind of rework of some of our back catalogue with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, very posh. The song we heard, its track originally on the 1996 album, Slang, it is Paper Sun." (Of course he meant 1999's Euphoria...)
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, a band who I believe were a big influence on Fish."
Genesis
"And before that we heard Genesis, who I do believe were a big influence on Fish and specifically Marillion. Back in the day, from the album we just heard Genesis, Wind And Wuthering is the album, the song we heard, The 11th Earl Of Mar."
Fairport Convention
"I've been listening to that band quite a lot this last two or three weeks, showing my age no doubt. I first heard them when I was about 10 years old on a compilation album put out by Island Records. That is Fairport Convention from their collection, the History Of, with a fantastic bit of work. In fact, I think it's my favourite song they ever did, Meet on the Ledge."
The Beatles
"Well that was a pretty prog-tastic 20 minutes or so, how about two and a half minutes of absolute top class pop, and I mean top class. This is the Beatles."
"And before that a brand new 2023 remix done by Giles Martin, son of the legendary Sir George Martin. We just heard from the 62 to 66 collection, the Beatles with A Hard Day's Night. "
The Rolling Stones
"For someone like me who's been a fan of these bands all my life for as long as I can remember, these last two artists being at the top of the charts once again in 2023 is so heart warming. There, from their number one album Hackney Diamonds, we just heard The Rolling Stones, which features Elton John on the piano."
Show Outro
"And that my friends on this cold, cold winter's eve is about it for this week. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, for more of the same, only just a little bit different."
"So until then, let's go out with, as I like to say, bit of a stonker. From the album Let There Be Rock, this is the one and only AC/DC and Dog Eat Dog. Until next week, see ya!"
