The Joe Elliott Show - 2nd August 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evenin' all, and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Hope you're all doing well. After last week's very emotional rollercoaster of a show, we're pretty much sort of back to normal this week.

I've got a couple of brilliant exclusives to play for you, which makes the show that bit more special.

But let's get started, shall we, with this crowd who are in complete control this week?

It's The Clash.

The Clash

I saw those guys live at the Sheffield Top Rank back in 1977, and I don't think I've ever seen a band that had so much energy as those guys did that night.

There, from their debut album in ’77, is The Clash with Complete Control.

The Struts

Now, I mentioned at the top of the show that I've got a couple of exclusive tracks tonight, so here we go.

You've probably already heard that Bad Company are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Well, there's a tribute album coming out pretty soon, and I've got the exclusive on this very first track.

This is The Struts.

Before that, we heard the brand new track from The Struts, which is taken from the Bad Company tribute album, called Can't Get Enough.

It features the likes of: Hardy, Halestorm, Slash with Myles Kennedy, of course, Blackberry Smoke, The Struts, as we just heard, Charley Crockett, Dirty Honey, Black Stone Cherry, The Pretty Reckless, Myself and Phil with Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke, doing what I like to consider a pretty spiffy reworking of the song Seagull.

The album’s coming out — I think it’s on October the 24th.

So I’ll hopefully get the exclusive on a few more of those tracks as the weeks roll by.

But for now, we just heard the aforementioned Struts with their version of Rock and Roll Fantasy.

Def Leppard

Well, you may have read that Tom Morello got up with Def Leppard recently, but I bet you weren't expecting to hear it tonight.

I had that mixed specifically for the show. In fact, it was going to be played last week if it hadn't been for the fact that it got nudged a week because of the Ozzy Osbourne tribute.

So there you go — from Ottawa, just about ten days ago on tour in Canada that is — Tom Morello and Def Leppard doing a live version of Just Like 73.

Bad Company

And seeing as we're here, we may as well listen to the original.

This is the one and only Bad Company.

And before that, we heard Bad Company — wonderful stuff from their third album.

We heard the title track: Run With the Pack.

Golden Earring

Well, I did say at the top of the show that we were back to normal... sort of.

Because here's why I said sort of.

On the very same day — July the 22nd — that Ozzy passed away, the Grim Reaper also scooped up George Kooymans from Golden Earring.

But that all got lost in the Ozzy noise — and understandably so.

But I think it's worth pointing out that Golden Earring’s contribution to rock was pretty substantial.

Just ask Steve Harris from Iron Maiden — one of his favourite albums of all time is Golden Earring’s Moontan.

And I have to say, George Kooymans, who I met backstage in ’83, was a bit of a joker.

He had a habit of taking photographs of people with his little Polaroid camera, wearing a little red nose.

He showed me some of the ones that he took, which convinced me to do it — and I have to say, there were some pretty famous people in that bunch.

So maybe one day his family will retrospectively take all those photos, put them together, and put them out in a book or something.

But until then, we'll just enjoy that one hit single that they had in the USA.

It's amazing to think that Golden Earring didn’t have a hit with Radar Love in America — it was maybe a decade and a half later that it became a hit for White Lion.

But their only success was the song that we just heard — Twilight Zone.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, we’re going to get into a little bit of CSN.

Crosby, Stills and Nash

And before that, we heard Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, taken from their box set — it is Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.

Kate Bush

And wow, what a talent that lady is — it’s Kate Bush, the title track of the album The Dreaming.

Ace Frehley

Now, way back in 1978, all four members of KISS released solo albums on exactly the same day.

Here, trying to push his way to the front, is Ace Frehley.

And before that, we heard Ace Frehley, who had the biggest hit of the four original KISS members with the song New York Groove.

But I thought I’d go with something a little different tonight — with I’m in Need of Love.

The Cars

Fantastic song and brilliant production from Queen’s old producer, Roy Thomas Baker.

There, it's The Cars, from their debut album back in 1978, with You're All I've Got Tonight.

Show Outro

And that, my friends, is about it for this week.

Been a real pleasure, as always.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don’t go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this from the album Singled Out.

This is Dr. Feelgood with Baby Jane.

Till next week, see ya!.
