The Joe Elliott Show - 26th July 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Well, it hasn't really sunk in yet, and I don't really have the words. So there's not going to be many spoken tonight.

Yeah, one or two stories maybe. But I want this to be a show where the music does the talking.

So this is The Joe Elliott Show on Planet Rock, and this is my tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne.

Ozzy Osbourne

Yes, from a time where Ozzy Osbourne — the lead singer for Black Sabbath — is no more, Ozzy Osbourne the solo artist is born.

From his debut album Blizzard of Ozz, we just heard "I Don’t Know."

Ozzy Osbourne

And did Ozzy know? Did Ozzy know that he would have a solo career that would last four times longer than Black Sabbath were together?

Only Ozzy could tell us that.

Now, when we toured with Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz in the summer of 1981 all across the USA, we had the great privilege of hearing this before anybody else.

Can you imagine what this sounded like coming out of the speakers on Ozzy Osbourne's bus?

And before that, from his second album Diary of a Madman, we heard "Over the Mountain."

Ozzy Osbourne

Yes, sadly the great man may be gone, but he will remain immortal to his huge legion of fans.

There, featuring Mike McCready, from the album Patient Number 9, is a song called "Immortal."

Ozzy Osbourne

Right, back to the debut album once again and to a song that was a monumental moment at the final gig.

And before that, we went back to Ozzy’s debut album Blizzard of Ozz once again with "Mr. Crowley."

Black Sabbath

Well, I had to play at least one Sabbath song, didn’t I?

And that one seems to be resonating all over the world right now.

We did a little snippet of it on the day Ozzy passed away, when we did a gig in Saratoga Springs.

It was even covered, I think, on the same night by Coldplay, wherever they were in the world.

But the version that I think will be remembered the most — other than the one that we just heard — is the one that was performed at Villa Park on the final gig when Youngblood absolutely battered it out of the park.

What a performance.

And there it is — that’s the Sabs from "Changes" from Volume 4 with "Changes".

You’re listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up, some more Ozzy.

Ozzy Osbourne

And before that, as I said before I introduced it again, from the album Patient Number 9 featuring Eric Clapton, we heard "One of Those Days."

Ozzy Osbourne

I have to say, slowly but surely, that is becoming my favorite Ozzy Osbourne solo album.

It’s very difficult to dismiss the first two because I was there, I was in and around them, and he’s done some great work in between.

But this album — the production, the guests that he got on board, and Ozzy’s vocals — they were fantastic on this record.

It’s a really well-rounded album, and we just heard the title track of it there featuring Jeff Beck — "Patient Number 9."

In fact, let’s stay with that album, shall we?

Here’s a track that features, like the last one, Jeff Beck — an ex-member of The Yardbirds — and Eric Clapton.

Well, it has to be said that Ozzy Osbourne went out on a high.

The last couple of albums, produced by Andrew Watt, so the production quality was outstanding.

But he roped in some mates, didn’t he?

That particular track featured Elton John.

It is the title track of the album Ordinary Man.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this particular show — my tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.

It has been a pleasure, but I wish I hadn’t had to make it, of course.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so I’ll see you then.

Till then, let’s finish off with this one.

This is a gentleman we’re talking about now that broke the rules, he rewrote the rules, and he did indeed write the Diary of a Madman.

Love you, Ozzy.
