The Joe Elliott Show - 21st June 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

How are you?

Great to be with you.

I am coming to you tonight all the way from Thackerville in Oklahoma.

Population: 400.

Note - Yes Joe's right, as of 2023, the population is 405.

So I think it's safe to say that tonight's venue is a drive-through venue.

I'm looking out of my hotel window right now to an empty car park that's just inside—just fields of trees that go on to the horizon.

Absolutely nothing going on, but in a few hours’ time, this car park will hopefully fill up and we will have a gig to do.

Now the tour started on Thursday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, proper.

And our opening act that night was these guys who opened for us 38 years ago on the Hysteria tour in the UK.

This is Tesla.

Tesla

Yes, it was great to see the guys again.

All those years ago we met, but we still keep crossing paths every now and again.

They're a wonderful bunch of people and they're a great band.

They are Tesla, and they played that song when they opened for us a couple of nights ago.

It is from an album from 2007 called Reel to Reel.

It is their version of one of my favourite ever James Gang songs — “Walk Away.”

Violet Breed

Now, when he's not playing bass for Tesla, Brian Wheat is managing, producing, and playing with these guys.

This is Violet Breed.

And before that, Violet Breed, also brand new — the song: “Endless Days.”

Muse

They are back, and they are just on form, aren't they?

That is Muse’s brand new single, “Unraveling.”

Black Sabbath

OK, so let's head off now to what you might call more familiar territory — specifically the Black Country.

This is Black Sabbath.

And before that, we heard Black Sabbath, from that wonderful album that is Volume 4, with “Supernaut.”

Black Country Communion

Derek Sherinian, Jason Bonham, Joe Bonamassa, and of course the voice of rock, Mr. Glenn Hughes.

That is Black Country Communion with a wonderful bit of work called “Afterglow.”

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

This week coming to you all the way from Thackerville in Oklahoma.

Coming up — we're going all bonkazoid with Split Enz.

Split Enz

And before that — I told you it was bonkazoid —

I saw those guys opening for Jack the Lad, the spin-off Lindisfarne band, if you like.

1976 — and absolutely fell in love with the album.

They are Split Enz.

The album is Mental Notes.

The song we heard: “Stranger Than Fiction.”

Steely Dan

From their 1976 album The Royal Scam, that is Steely Dan with a wonderful bit of work called “Haitian Divorce.”

John Miles

Right, let's head off up to the North East, shall we, for a wonderful bit of power pop from John Miles.

And before that, we heard John Miles back in 1976.

That was his first ever hit.

The album is Rebel.

The song we heard: “High Fly.”

Todd Rundgren

The incredibly talented Mr. Todd Rundgren right there, from an album called Something/Anything, with the wonderful “I Saw the Light.”

Show Outro

And that, my friends, is about it for this week, all the way from Thackerville in Oklahoma.

I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, all the way from Atlantic City in New Jersey.

So until then, I shall leave you with this.

Now, who would have thought a few years ago that the Sex Pistols would be playing Download?

Not I — but I'm glad they did.

But one guy who decided not to get on board was Johnny Rotten — slash John Lydon.

So let's play out with one of his tunes, shall we?

This is Public Image.

Until next week — see ya!
