Show Intro
"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you as always. We have, in my humble opinion tonight, some wonderful music for ya. Sixty minutes of in fact. And we're gonna get the show started with a bit of a birthday celebration. Because 50 years ago this week Led Zeppelin released this wonderful piece of work."
Led Zeppelin
"Fantastic stuff there from Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy album. Which celebrated its 50th birthday this week. Wonderful stuff. The opening track we just heard, The Song Remains The Same."
Mott The Hoople
"Now here's a song from an album that has also celebrated its birthday this week. A mere 49 years old. So happy birthday The Hoople."
"The Hoople 49 years old this week. The final studio album By Mott The Hoople. the only one to feature Luther Grosvenor aka Ariel Bender on guitar. The song we heard, actually once covered by Def Leppard on the 2006 YEAH! album, the opening track of The Hoople, The Golden Age Of Rock 'n' Roll."
Wizzard
"50 years ago, or there or thereabouts, 50 seems to be the recurring theme so far on this show doesn't it. There from 1973 are Wizzard featuring the wonderfully talented Mr. Roy Wood. With a huge hit for them called See My Baby Jive. A song Ian Hunter has often said saved his life back in 1973. And I it's hugely responsible for the reason that The Hoople had so many saxophones on it."
The Motors
"Right then 50 years ago be gone!. Let's go back a mere 46. This is The Motors."
"And before that The Motors. Produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange. The B-Side of Dancing The Night Away. A song once covered by Cheap Trick. And one of my favourite Motors songs of all time. We just heard the track that is absolutely flooded in feedback. Not something that Mutt Lange was known for. But it sounds wonderful on the song Whisky And Wine."
The Tubes
"Absolutely love that band. In fact if you've heard the last Down 'n' Outz album you'll know that we covered a classic Tubes track White Punks On Dope. But there from the album that was produced by one Mr. Todd Rundgren. The album is Remote Control. It is The Tubes with TV Is King."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up a gentleman who once flew in from Toronto, went to The Marquee, jumped up on stage, grabbed a guitar, and a career was born."
Pat Travers
"And before that Pat Travers who as I said in the intro before the break. Flew in from Toronto, went to The Marquee, decided to just jump up on stage. I'm not sure who the band was. But grabbed a guitar. They let him play. And within a couple of weeks he had a record deal. Pat Travers, who Def Leppard toured with in America for a couple of weeks back in 1980. From his debut abum, which I saw him perform twice when he opened for the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. And his band were absolutely amazing. The song that we just heard Medley, Part 1 & 2."
Wishbone Ash
"I see the mega box set for Argus just got a 10 star review from the out of retirement Geoff Barton. In this month's Classic Rock Magazine. Fair dues Wishbone Ash. I never saw them on the Argus tour, but I did see them on the tour for the song that we just heard. The album is New England. It featured their new guitarist Laurie Wisefield who happened to be born on the same street as Phil Collen. The song that we heard, a beautiful instrumental called Outward Bound."
The Babys
"Now here's a band that packed their bags in Manchester and set off for fame and fortune in Los Angeles. No it's not Oasis, or the Happy Monday's. Or any of that crowd from Britpop. This is going back to 1973. This is The Babys."
"And before that The Babys all the way from Manchester. Headed off to America. Nearly made it. Had a couple of what you might call semi hits. Fantastic singing from a guy that went on to have a huge hit on his own. John Waite with Missing You. But there he is singing the titoe track from their album Head First."
UFO
"When I was a lad back in Sheffield. I used to work in a factory called Osbournes. August 1975 was my first day there and I met a kid called Colin who I'm still good mates with now. And we got talking music. And I lent him the first Montrose album. And he lent me the third album by the band that we just heard. Back in those days of course everybody used to lend each other albums and you'd just tape them on to cassette. It was a win win. He got Montrose and I got UFO. Yes their first album for Chrysalis Records in 1974. the album is Phenomenon. Of course everybody knows it best for Rock Bottom. And of course Doctor Doctor. But I thought I'd play something a little different, So there we have Space Child."
Show Outro
"And that my friends is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time.
"So until then how about something from this century. Ahh why not. This from the album Everybody Wants. The Redux version. It's The Struts with Could've Been Me. Until next week see ya!."
