Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all the way from Brussels in Belgium. On a day off. Big rock show last night in France. Big rock show here tomorrow night. Really looking forward to that. Really looking forward to the next 60 minutes actually because we've got some brand new music. Quite a bit of it actually. Specifically this band. Extremely happy to say they're back and they're back with a bang. This is the Foo Fighters."
Foo Fighters
"Now you don't need me to tell you what a wonderful band these guys have been. One of the greatest bands of this century. And beyond actually. They go back to the mid 90s. For me they never fail to deliver. I absolutely love their work. Everything that they do. And they have made a stunning return with this album. And considering the trauma that they went through losing Taylor Hawkins. I'm so glad that they ulled this off. They stayed within their bubble, Dave Grohl played all the drums. Then they decided to move on. Very similar to what Def Leppard did when we lost Steve CLark. We made Adrenalize as a four piece and then we started looking around to see who we could get to play with us. They've done it. They've pulled it off. It's a wonderful record. I love it so much I'm actually gonna play something else from it later on in the show. But for now we have just heard from the album But Here We Are, a fantastic bit of work called Under You."
Von Hertzen Brothers
"So for the last wee or so we have been rocking the Scandinavians. We've been to Finland. We've been to Norway. We've been to Sweden. We've bumped into some old friends. We've met some new ones. Seen some bands that we've never seen before. And seen some bands that we've played with many many times. Gonna play a few bits now from bands who have been around us for the last week or so. Starting off with the Von Hertzen Brothers."
"And before that we heard the Von Hertzen Brothers who did play on the day that we were playing in Finland. But we missed them because they were on so early they were finished by the time we arrived. But I did get to meet Nicko for the first time. And he knows I'm a big fan through social media. It was really nice to meet him. Wanted to play something from them this week. I wanna play something from them every week 'cause I love them so much. It is the title track from their album New Day Rising."
Michael Monroe
"Fair play to Michael Monroe. He did a gig on the same day we played in Finland about two of three hours away. Did his show. Got in the car with all his stage clothes on. Drove about two hours just to come and say hi to us. This guy lives and breathes rock and roll. Look up the phrase rock and roll in a dictionary, there's a picture of Michael Monroe. Absolutely love him. And there we just heard him from his album I Live Too Fast To Die Young. With a song called Can't Stop Falling Apart."
Airbourne
"Now here's a couple of bands who we did actually get to see and hear. And boy did both of these bands make a noise. Starting off with Airbourne."
"And before that we heard Airbourne. Great guys. They were stood at the side of the stage for our set. For the entire show. Unbelievable really. Title track of their album Boneshaker."
Clutch
"Those guys were absolutely fantastic. I can't emphasise enough how brilliant they sounded. They are Clutch. That's from an album from about ten years ago. Title track of Earth Rocker."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week coming to you all the way from Brussels in Belgium. Coming up, we're gonna get educated once again by the Foo Fighters."
Foo Fighters
"Before that we heard once again from the album But Here We Are. The Foo Fighters. 10 minutes of absolute beauty. The song is called The Teacher."
Queen
"Now those two song go together for me perfectly. It's almost like for those of us that can remember the family tree posters that used to be in one of the music rags back in the 70s. We have the band Queen. Roger Taylor was godfather to Shane Hawkins. Taylor Hawkins son. Roger's son Rufus who with The Darkness. Big mates with Taylor Hawkins. In fact loved him so much they were like brothers almost. So I think it's nice that we played these two back to back. It's Queen from 1975 with Roger Taylor singing. What a great voice that guy has. And I don't even want to say, for a drummer, he just has a fantastic voice. Night At The Opera is the album 1975. The song I'm In Love With My Car."
Sparks
"Now if you're a fan of this next band you're gonna love this because it's a total throwback to the days when you discovered them. This is Sparks."
"And before that Sparks from their brand new album That Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. With a song that is such a throwback to the days of Indiscreet. Propaganda, Kimono My House. It's just son infectious. It is called Nothing Is As Good As They Say It Is."
Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs
"I saw him live opening for The Who at the Hollywood Bowl about nine months ago and I have to say he was absolutely brilliant live. I've been a massive fan ever since I saw him play guitar for Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers at the Sheffield City Hall way back in 1978. It is Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs. The album is called External Combustion. The song that we just heard Cheap Talk."
Show Outro
"And that my friends, all the way from Brussels in Belgium, is about it for this week. It's be=een a real pleasure as always. But hey you know that already. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time all the way from Madrid in Spain.
"So until then I shall leave you with this. We toured with her last summer. I saw her in her original band at the Sheffield University in 1976. And she's still got it. This is Joan Jett And The Blackhearts with a song called If You're Blue. Until next week see ya!."
