Show Intro
"Boy, have I got a show for you tonight. It is all over the place. Now, I know I say that quite a lot, but it really is an eclectic collection of some fantastic tunes for you for this next 60 minutes. Oh yeah, by the way, I'm Joe Elliott, this is Planet Rock, and this is brand new Judas Priest."
Judas Priest
"The mighty Judas Priest have their highest ever chart entry in the UK in their entire 50-odd-year career, which is absolutely astonishing. So congratulations to Judas Priest, and Bob Halford, my goodness, 70-odd years old, is still hitting those high notes. Just goes to show, if you keep yourself in shape, it is possible."
"Yeah, difficult, but possible. Well done. Absolutely wonderful stuff. The album is called The Invincible Shield and the song that we just heard, The Serpent And The King."
Killing Joke
"Okay, so let's head back to 1984. This is Killing Joke."
"And before that we heard Killing Joke, wonderful stuff from 1984. The album is Night Time, the song we heard, Love Like Blood."
Fanny
"So I won't bore you long-time listeners with the story of how I came across that song, because I've told it a few times. Oh, go on then, I will. 1972, The NME, free flexi-disc single. I heard that song and I was hooked. It is Fanny, taken from their relatively recent 4-CD box set that came out, I think about maybe five, six years ago, which is called First Time in a Long Time. The song is Blind Alley. And what a song."
The Young Romans
"Now, as we all know, this channel is called Planet Rock, and as you all know, I am prone to occasionally dip into what I like to call Planet Pop. Essentially, pop is just an abbreviation of popular. And a couple of tunes coming up now from bands that you wouldn't necessarily say are out-and-out rock bands, but they've got a rock influence, if you like. And these really are great tunes and I play them often."
"And I know a few people out there listen to this kind of music, so it's nice to mix it in with a really heavy stuff like Judas Priest and the kind of grungy stuff like Killing Joke. So give it a listen, starting off with the Young Romans."
ELO
"And before that we heard ELO, featuring the very talented, of course, Mr. Jeff Lynne. From the ashes of The Move, they became one of the biggest bands in the world. The album is Face The Music, the song we heard, Knightrider."
Manfred Mann's Earth Band
"Based on an old classical piece of music written by Gustav Holtz, that is Manfred Mann's Earth Band from 1973, bringing it right up to date at the time. A song called Joybringer, wonderful stuff."
Elton John
"Now, I know a very popular subject matter amongst music lovers in the pub is the double album. Would it have made a great single record if it had just left off five or six tracks, or is it justified? Well, in my humble opinion, the track we're about to hear is from an album that is absolutely all killer, no filler. This is Elton John."
"And before that, Elton John, from that amazing double album that is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road from way back in 1973, the song that we heard, The Ballad of Danny Bailey."
The Kinks
"Yes, I know I played the Kinks last week, but this is different because this is lead vocals by Dave Davis, a song that was so brilliantly used in The Sopranos. It is from the album Word Of Mouth. The song is Living On A Thin Line."
Show Outro
"And that, my friends, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure, as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so until then, don't touch that dial, etc., etc., etc."
"I shall leave you with this. Yes, another band I played last week, but I'm having a bit of a kick on this particular band, and specifically their greatest hits album, which is called Action the Ultimate Story. There's your clue. This is Sweet. And Fox on the Run. Till next week, see ya!."
