Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all the way from the middle of nowhere 'cause I'm on a months break. I have reared my head from my mid summer's hibernation to do this wonderful thing which is this show. That I love dong for you folks. Well you didn't think I wasn't going to did you. I'm like the gopher from Caddyshack. I've reared my head. I'm alright. Nobody worried about me. Then back down again. But enough of this Kenny Loggins tomfoolery. Let's get our rock groove on with The Groover himself. Who will introduce his band himself."

T. Rex

"It was in fact a standalone seven inch single back in 1973. So I have taken that from a Japanese import from guess where. Called Great Hits 72 to 78. It is of course T. Rex with The Groover."

Mammoth WVH

"Well the European tour may well be over but that doesn't mean to say that I'm not gonna be playing a song tonight from a band that joined us just for three of the British and Irish gigs. Specifically London, Dublin and Glasgow. And boy what a fantastic band they are. This is Mammoth.

"Before that we heard Mammoth WVH. Which of course stands for Wolfgang Van Halen. From their debut album a couple of years ago. Wonderful opening track called Mr. Ed."

Måneskin

"That is Måneskin who you probably know won the Eurovision Song Contest a few years ago. Be interesting to see if they become as popular as ABBA did after they wo nit. Time will tell. Now I really wanted to play a track from their latest album called Blah Blah Blah 'cause it's absolutely fantastic. Tragically it is very very rude so I can't. So instead I've gone for this one. The album is Rush. The song that we heard is Gasoline."

Queen

"Now this next introduction is gonna become more and more common as time goes by. But it still feels very very strange to say it. And here goes. Happy 50th birthday Queen I."

"And before that we heard Queen. 50 years old this week Queen I. It's unbelievable. The song that we heard My Fairy King. Happy birthday."

Paul Rodgers

"Well he's still got it hasn't he. He never ever fails to deliver that man. He's got one of the greatest blues soul rock voices of all time. And he's got a brand new album coming out soon called Midnight Rose. Produced by Bob Rock. The song that we just heard there Living It Up. Welcome back Paul Rodgers."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, a bit of a Bowie fest including a cover of one of his songs that was 54 years old this week."

David Bowie

"And before that we heard David Bowie himself from 1974. The album Diamond Dogs. It is that medley of Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing Reprise."

Def Leppard

"There's a very sentimental story there to that recording of David Bowie's Space Oddity. It's by yours truly way back in 2003. I'd just bought a whole rack of new studio gear. And I was dying to try it out and I didn't have a new song to demo. So I decided to record that because my Dad bless him. His birthday was coming up. His 73rd birthday was coming up and it was his favourite song aside of all the Sinatra type stuff. He lover Major Tom by David Bowie. Of course we all know it wasn't called that. But that's what he called it so we all knew what he meant. And I recorded it. Played everything myself. Burnt it onto a CD and gave it to him for his birthday. So that's how that song came about. It sat around in our archive for a few years. Until we recorded the YEAH! album. And we used it as a bonus track on some of the singles in foreign territories. It's now out on the YEAH! II album in the last box set."

Doctors Of Madness

"Well I saw what was supposedly their last ever show at the 100 club in London about 4, 5 years ago. But apparently I and they were wrong because they're going back out again. At least in Japan. This is the Doctors Of Madness."

"And before that we heard the Doctors Of Madness. Now Kid Strange leader of said band came to see Def Leppard at Wembley Stadium just a couple of weeks ago. But I missed him afterwards 'cause we were both in separate areas by accident. And by the time I tracked him down he was on the bus home. What a bummer. Anyway from his last album or their last album. Wonderful bit of work, and yes that is yours truly doing the harmony vocal. The album is Dark Times. The song Blood Brother."

Wreckless Eric

"I'll let you into a little secret. About 29 years ago when I was working with Ricky Warwick. He of occasional Thin Lizzy fame and mostly Black Star Riders. But a great solo career too. When we were working on his second album Love Many, Trust Few. We were gonna record that song together but we just ran out of time. We've talked about it often since but we're just never in the same place. So it's a pipe dream that may or may never happen. But isn't the original just brilliant. It#s taken from 1977 The Year That Punk Broke collection. That is Wreckless Eric with Whole Wide World."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time.

"So until then I shall sign off the only way I possibly can this week. I saw the entire Glastonbury set live on a day off in a hotel room in Madrid. It was watched by countless millions of other people at the same time. And thousand upon thousands of people on site. This gentleman's body of work will live with us forever. He has entertained me ever since my teenage years. And I will miss seeing him live so much. I'm gonna sing off with one of the greatest rock songs that he ever did. From the 1973 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. This is the legend that is Elton John with Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting. Until next week see ya!."
