The Joe Elliott Show - 13th September 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening everyone, and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on—you know where—the wonderful Planet Rock.

How you doing? Great to be with you again after last week's extravaganza in Chelmsford.

I'm finally home and having a bit of R&R, but we have got some fantastic music lined up for you tonight.

More, by the way, in a few minutes’ time about Chelmsford.

But for right now, here's some brand new music from The Hives.

The Hives

Enough Is Enough, Unless, of course, it's a brand new Hives album, and then enough is never enough.

This album is absolutely chock-a-block full of great tunes. It comes in at a rip-roaring 33 minutes, but it's just brilliant.

It is called The Hives Forever Forever the Hives.

The song we just heard: Enough Is Enough.

Bryan Adams

Right, back to Chelmsford.

There’s a couple of artists, back-to-back, that I shared a stage with last week— albeit one of them headlined the night before. There's your clue.

This is Bryan Adams.

And before that, we heard Bryan Adams, who was absolutely magnificent the night before.

And I thought the new material came across really, really well live.

So I thought I would play one of them tonight.

From the album Roll With The Punches, we just heard Make Up Your Mind.

Suede

When I downloaded this album just a few days ago, I was reminded of the fact that occasionally a band has to change its name in America because there's a band of the same name over there.

And I'd forgotten all about this.

So we just heard the London Suede, because there's a Suede in America.

But of course, to you and I, they are just simply Suede, and they are fantastic— and they were great in Chelmsford last week.

The brand-new album is called Antidepressants.

The song that we just heard, which shares a song title with the theme tune of this show— a song that Phil wrote for the 1999 album Euphoria—is Disintegrate.

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Right, here's a couple of really, really good cover versions.

Starting off with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

And before that—equally wonderful—The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, from their album The Penthouse Tapes, with a great cover of an old Jethro Tull song: Love Story.

Velvet Revolver

Now, now, my friends, in case you didn't know—this is Velvet Revolver, taken from their album Libertad, with a wonderful cover of the old ELO tune Can't Get It Out of My Head.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up: some absolutely magnificent work from the debut album of the band Television.

Television

And before that—simply sublime, that's all I can say—it's Television, from their debut album back in 1978.

We heard the title track: Marquee Moon.

Supertramp

Now, I have been happily saying for the last couple of weeks that it's been The Joe Elliott Birthday Show, which has been great.

But we all knew that it was going to come to a shuddering halt sooner or later.

But—sooner than I'd hoped—just a few days ago, we lost Rick Davies from Supertramp, at the grand old age of 81, after a very long illness.

Now, I saw Supertramp at the Sheffield City Hall back in 1975, when they were promoting the Crisis? What Crisis? album.

But they played pretty much all, if not all, of the previous year's album.

And I thought, seeing as it is Rick Davies's masterpiece, I would play the title track from that album.

So we just heard Supertramp there, with Crime of the Century.

So—rest in peace, Rick Davies.

The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver

When I first started out in this strange, strange business that we're in, a gentleman that I worked with in a factory once said to me, "Well, you've got to have a dream, kid."

And I did. And guess what? So did Sutherland Brothers and Quiver.

And before that, we heard Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, who I also saw at the Sheffield City Hall around 1977.

They wrote the song Sailing, which was a huge hit for Rod Stewart.

And when they played it live in Germany, they used to get booed because people thought they were covering a Rod Stewart song.

Kind of weird how things turn out.

But there they are, taken from their Very Best Of, with that wonderful song Dream Kid.

Utopia

For me, after Queen, there's nobody better with the vocal harmonies in that crowd. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

It is Utopia, from their 1977 album Ra, with Magic Dragon Theatre.

Show Outro

And that, my dear friends, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure, as always.

I should be back with you next week at exactly the same time.

So don't go anywhere. Don't touch that dial.

Why would you want to, anyway?

So until then, I shall leave you with this little bit of truth, written by his very good friend, Mr. Jimmy Page.

This is Jeff Beck with Beck's Bolero.

Until next week—see ya!
