Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week it's coming to you all the way from Sydney in Australia. And can I just say we're staying at the Park Hyatt. It's an insanely fantastic hotel. And my room is looking straight at the Sydney Opera House. What an incredible way to end this tour. We did however fly in from Brisbane through an insane storm. It was pretty freaky. In fact it was pretty vicious. Just like this crowd. This is The Struts."

The Struts

"Yes I highly recommend if you're on an airplane and you're stuck in a cloud going round in circles 'cause they can't land 'cause of the weather. Best not to look out the window. Yes watch something on your laptop, because that's exactly what I did. Take my mind off it. We did however come through and land safely thank goodness. Which gave me the opportunity to record this show. And what a way to start it. That's The Struts from their brand new album out last week. the album is Pretty Vicious. The song we heard. What a track. Rockstar."

Foo Fighters

"And talking of rock stars. I mean everybody on this show is a rock star. But these guys, they just take the biscuit. This is the Foo Fighters."

"And before that we heard the Foo Fighters from their latest album But Here We Are with Rescued."

Iggy Pop

"Produced by one Mr. David Bowie. That is Iggy Pop from the 1977 album The Idiot with Sister Midnight."

The Beatles

"Now if you're of a certain vintage you've probably heard this song quite a lot this week. But I'm gonna play it and I'm gonna say something I never thought I'd ever say. Here is brand new Beatles."

"And before that brand new Beatles. Who though they'd ever say that?. It's a John Lennon demo from about 1977 I think that Yoko gave to the guys. They tried messing with it in '97. But it was such a kind of basic recording that they couldn't separate the piano and the voice. But Peter Jackson, the legendary New Zealand director, managed to come up with this software that you can separate the two and listen to Lennon almost acapella in the room. Which made the technology so much easier to create the song. Which they have been doing for the last year or so. And it is now the new song on the remixed version of 1967 to 1970 Beatles best of collection. The song is Now And Then. And aren't we glad they did it."

The Rolling Stones

"I saw a cartoon earlier this week. Two guys walking down the street and they go past this sign. And it says Rolling Stones Number One. Brand new Beatles single. And one guy turns round to the other and he says. How far did we put the clocks back this week?. Yeah it's pretty impressive that two bands from the early sixties are having such fantastic success in 2023. We just heard The Rolling Stones there from their brand new Number One album Hackney Diamonds with a song called Live By The Sword. Which also features, as did the track I played last week, Sir Elton John on the piano."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week coming to you all the way from Sydney in Australia. Coming up every picture tells a story. Doesn't it Rod."

Rod Stewart

"And before that Rod Stewart from the first album that I ever bought. Two pounds and eleven pence from Sine Electric in Broomhall in Sheffield. It is the title track of the album Every Picture Tells A Story."

Fairport Convention

"Well they're still out doing it folks. In fact just a few days ago they played the Crookes Workingmen's Club. Early haunt of Def Leppard back in 1979. It is Fairport Convention from the album Now And Then 1982-1996 the best of. It's the live version of a classic track called Meet On The Ledge."

Doctors Of Madness

"Now I mentioned on last week's show how when we were in Japan I'd acquired at least half a suitcase worth of fantastic goodies from a great record store. You might call some of them "unofficial" releases. That's the polite way of putting it. But amongst some of them that I got were official releases. And Japan only official releases. And if you like it rough and ready. You might just enjoy this. This is the Doctors Of Madness."

"And before that we heard the Doctors Of Madness. It's from an album called The Lockdown Sessions. it was recorded in lieu of a cancelled Japanese tour. And put together very quickly and very roughly. Which gives it it's charm. It's a great album if you like that band. The song that we heard is a rework of the title track of their third album Sons Of Survival."

Hozier

"From his most excellent third album Unreal/Unearth. That is County Wicklow's favourite son Hozier with a fantastic piece of work called First Light."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Sydney in Australia, is about it for this week. In fact by the time we get together next week, this tour that Def Leppard have been on with Motley Crue for the best part of 18 months will be over. And we shall be taking a little bit of a break. But I won't because I will be back with you next week at exactly the same time. With more of, how I like to say, the same but only just a little bit different.

"So until then I shall leave you with this. From their second album No More Heroes. This is The Stranglers and 5 Minute. Till next week see ya!."
