The Joe Elliott Show - 10th May 2025 Transcript - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Show Intro

Evening all.

How are you?

You know where you are — it's Planet Rock.

It's that time of night. It's The Joe Elliott Show.

How are you? Great to be with you once again.

Got 60 minutes of wonderful music — in my humble opinion — starting off with this beauty from 1971 by Deep Purple.

Deep Purple

That album is very close to my heart because it's the first Deep Purple album that I ever owned.

1971 — we just heard the title track of Fireball.

Heavy Metal Kids

Now, when you hear the intro of this next song, you would be forgiven if you thought it was Queen, but it's not.

It's The Heavy Metal Kids.

And before that, we had The Heavy Metal Kids from their last official album Kitsch, with a wonderful bit of work, even though it does start off sounding a little bit like Queen.

Now, on Kitsch, specifically, we heard Squalliday Inn.

Japan

They became much more of a new age, avant-garde band, but when they started out, they rocked in their own special way.

They were very influenced by the New York Dolls, and they were a big influence on Duran Duran, I believe, as well.

I saw them open for Blue Öyster Cult, and they didn’t go down too well with the BÖC’s audience — much to my annoyance at the time, because I thought they were very, very good.

From their debut album in 1978 — maybe ’77–’78 — it's Adolescent Sex.

The band is Japan.

The song we heard: Lovers On Main Street.

Luke Spiller

Now, me being me, I had the great pleasure and honour of having this album a couple of months before it was officially released, because the artist trusted me — that I could have a listen and see what I thought.

And I said to him,

“I said, there seems to be a big theme to this album. It’s almost color-sound. It’s panoramic.”

So I’ve been dying to introduce this song like this:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Spiller — Luke Spiller.

And before that, it just gets a big wow from me — Luke Spiller’s solo album Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes And Wine.

Love that title.

The song that we heard is the opening track — and what a masterpiece it is — Devil In Me.

Procol Harum

Another wonderful multi-spectrum piece of work there from Procol Harum, from 1967, I believe it was.

It is A Salty Dog.

You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock.

Coming up — Elton John is going to get all pyromaniac on us.

Elton John

And before that, we heard the wonderful Elton John from that great album Tumbleweed Connection, with Burn Down the Mission.

Lindisfarne

I remember the first time I heard that song — how haunting it was, and still is.

It's just a magnificent piece of work from one of the greatest poet-songwriters out of the UK of all time.

I'm talking Alan Hull from Lindisfarne.

Taken from their brilliantly titled album Nicely Out Of Tune, it is their first-ever hit single — Lady Eleanor.

10CC

Right then, it is time for some Silly Love from 10CC.

And before that, we heard 10cc from their second album, back in 1972, I think it was.

The album is Sheet Music.

The song we heard — Silly Love.

Jethro Tull

I see they just announced a tour for next April–May in the UK.

I really hope I can get to one of the shows — they actually play the Sheffield City Hall.

So I might actually have to jump on a plane — unless, of course, I’m not doing my own shows. Who knows by next year?

It’s Jethro Tull, taken from that wonderful album from 1971 — Aqualung — with Cross-Eyed Mary.

Show Outro

And that, my friends, is about it for this week.

It's been a real pleasure, as always. I should be back with you next week at exactly the same time, so please don't go anywhere.

Until then, I shall leave you with this.

Now these guys — these two wonderful guys — are still trading with the name of a band.

They've got a brand-new album out, which I have yet to invest in, so I’m not sure if there’s anything on it that I can play on the show.

I will find out in the next couple of weeks.

But I can definitely play this:

It’s Sparks, from the album Indiscreet.

This is In The Future.

Until next week — see ya.
