30 Years Ago DEF LEPPARD Play LET'S GET ROCKED At MTV Awards (Video/Photos)
Def Leppard performed at the MTV Video Music Awards show on this day in 1992 and footage of Let's Get Rocked is available along with photos.
The band appeared at the event for the second time during a short break in the Adrenalize US tour.
The last show had been in Bismarck, ND on 5th September having started in Norfolk, VA on 13th August.
The 'An Evening With...' In The Round shows resumed on 11th September in Salt Lake City, UT with 'Let's Get Rocked' replacing 'Stagefright' as the show opener.
Their 6th September 1989 appearance (a mostly playback version of 'Tear It Down') was the last time Steve Clark appeared with them on stage as a member of the band.
The 'Let's Get Rocked' video was nominated for four major awards on the night.
The show took place at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, CA and was hosted by Dana Carvey. 'Let's Get Rocked' was performed to a lukewarm response from the crowd and saw Joe wearing an interesting outfit.
Other performers included Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, Pearl Jam, Bryan Adams and Red Hot Chili Peppers in probably the biggest and best line-up the event ever had.
Joe was interviewed live during the pre show build up by VJ Tabatha Soren.

Joe talked about the show in a Tour Diary written for Kerrang! magazine shortly after.

Joe Elliott - Tour Diary 10th September 1992
"Well, I was right. We won bugger all!! We were in good company though, the Crowes didn't win anything either. I'm glad the Chilli Peppers won something. And Van Halen, for that matter - they've been around way longer than us, so there's hope yet!
My outfit caused an odd, strange reaction. Mostly people thought I looked like Sam Kinison! Not as fat, not as humorous, but a bit taller. God bless him!
I heard the tape earlier on today. We sounded way better than GN'R for a start! I also thought Pearl Jam sounded great, and I'm still trying to figure out if the bass player from Nirvana really hurt himself or not. Looked pretty bad/convincing to me!!
Saw Brian and Roger from Queen. Both in good form. I can't believe it's been four and-a-half months since the Freddie gig - time really does fly."
Joe Elliott 9th September 1992 - MTV Interview Quotes
How's the tour going?
"The tour's been going really well. Yeah I mean, I can't believe, we've just been talking today, for the world tour we've actually been out for four months already and it seems like we only started last week. It's really weird."
So you're going to be primed for this show?
"Oh big time."
One of the video awards that you are up for is the Viewer's Choice Award. Since most of the awards are picked by the music industry. Does the Viewer's Choice Award mean anything more to you?.
"Well, to be quite honest with you it's the most meaningful award there is out there of the lot as far as I'm concerned because it's the one that's voted for by the people who actually get to watch the videos. I have no idea who chooses the winner of the other video categories. You know is there a kind of a team of 75 year old businessmen or is it a bunch of guys our age or what. I think the one that's picked by the viewers is way most important one."
Def Leppard is a real veteran in terms of video.
"Thanks you make me sound really old."
I didn't mean it that way. When you look back on videos like Photograph and Rock Of Ages. What do you think?.
"I crawl up into a corner and hide and deny that it's me."
What do you know now that you didn't know then?
"Putting women in cages is not really cool. But in 1982 when we shot the videos David Mallet the director was very keen on doing that and we were naive, young and it sorted of looked good just as a visual aspect you know. I think it's a bit tacky now. I think there was a lot of energy in those videos and they didn't open the doors for a lot of other people. Because when you look at Photograph, as old and as dated as it may be getting now, for its time it was a great video."
Well that's what I meant by you being a veteran.
"Yeah, yeah. It's a good video. Rock Of Ages, I still have to laugh when I see the hands coming out the smoke and start clapping. But other than that you know it's a bit of fun really."
